the cost IS outrageous. It probably costs you all 3 guys you listed to get the deal done (Smith, Matthew’s and Dicenzo), because of his relatively low salary and ability to be dominant in CF and at the plate in stretches.
Not sure on that. if you included some pitching instead, but I'm certainly no expert. I'm not trading Smith for much of anything.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6011626/2024/12/21/dodgers-teoscar-hernandez-alternatives/ As negotiations with free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández remain at an impasse, the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers are exploring a number of intriguing right-handed hitting alternatives. The potential options, according to sources briefed on the team’s discussions, include infielder Ha-Seong Kim in free agency and Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki, Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. and others in trade. Hernández, 32, is seeking a three-year deal between $66 million and $72 million, according to a person briefed on the negotiations. The length of contract does not appear to be a point of contention between the parties. The issue is money. … For Robert, the White Sox do not expect to receive multiple top prospects, but would want a “meaningful piece” in return, a source said. The market for him could accelerate once the leading free-agent outfielders, Hernández and Anthony Santander, are off the board.
Best I can do is Jake Meyers. If they accept right now, I’ll throw in Jon Singleton, Grae Kessinger & Pedro Leon & Forrest Whitley in for free.
Whitley is a real piece. The Astros NEED Robert, or at least 1 OF on his level. Obviously the White Sox will want pre-arb players and/or prospects. I would do Melton, Gusto, Fleury, and Leon. Gusto and Leon probably make the White Sox 26 man. Melton and Fleury probably make it in 2026. All 4 have legitimate MLB ceilings but none are without bust risk. With Robert under control for 3 years, none of them are a crucial part of the Astros future.
Yeah good trade for them. Cecconi had a 6.66 ERA last season so not much value given up. Naylor is free agent next season though.
I think it would mean spencer and a couple of good prospects. Not sure how that would stack up against other offers. He is pretty much the best supposedly available fit for the Astros.
Christian Walker signing with the Astros really set off the 1st baseman market. Goldschmidt, Naylor, and now Santana. Mariners lost another target.
My vote is Pederson as a lefty outfield platoon option. We need someone that can mash right handed pitching (.923 OPS vs RHP in 2024).
