In fairness, Bregman will be 31 next year. The debate has been whether to give him 7 years through age 37, not 40.
Yes, he's basically exactly 3 years younger than Walker. I bet he gets more than 7, and for more money, and etc...
He was a target of mine for the Astros a couple of years ago (before Jose Abreu). Glad we got him. Crawford boxes should be made for him.
that MF all kinds foolish..... those picks aint gonna be > this guy's contributions. **** yes... making moves.
If you need more convincing on whether this was a good signing, go check out his stat cast page. A lot of bright red throughout it.
This is the first year in which this "squad" is gonna feel 'off'. I'ts gonna be alright. More than happy w the acquisitions... setting up for a AB 7/$183 deal (+incentives=$200MM)... yall know this that sweet sweet numerical spot. Yall know Crane got a gentleman's agreement in place w JV.... Also-- this is how you show your organizational talent you're willing to build around them... good stuff. edit: fireball.
Don't know how to post a picture of it on here. Here's the link though: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/christian-walker-572233?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
Abreu was: - 2 years older - had already shown signs of determination - sucked in the field Walker is: - 2 years younger - just had one if his best offensive seasons - plays gold glove defense That said, best case would've been Jabreu giving 750 OPS for 3 seasons. Astros could've 1) used Walker's salary elsewhere 2) had more prospects from not dealing them to offset Jabreu's suckage 3) won at least one more championship these past two seasons. Right now the Astros outfield is weak. Team needs another player, plus a 750 OPS from Chas.
I may have gotten the players wrong, but this is their way of thinking and I agree with it If they can trade Pressly, Caratini they can add impact an OF'er. Question is do they make those deals if they think they can bring Bregs back. I think unlike most there's a good chance Bregs could be the starting 3B and Paredes could start in LF. Is this likely, no. But signing Walker today opens up all kinds of possibilities.
