They won't keep Singleton. Diaz, Caratini (if they keep him), Dicenzo in a pinch and Paredes can all play 1b. With the Walker signing they pretty much said goodbye to Singleton.

The Astros brought on Salary with Walker and Parades, but they subtracted salary with Bregman and Tucker. I don't see why they can't add an OF or 2 if they want without breaking the bank. Hell Robert only makes 15/20/20 for the next 3 years if they trade for him. Of course, he will cost a bunch in assets I bet.

Offer Teoscar the same contract you offered Walker and let that window stay open

    My plan

    1. Sign Bregman
    2. Play Yordan in LF 40 games.
    3. Give Altuve 1 day off per week.
    4. Paredes or Bregman play 26g @2b.
    5. Puzzle the OF together with Chas, Meyers, Dezenzo, Whitcomb, Leon and/or Teammell until Melton and/or Smith is ready.
That's 552 games (162 each for 1b, 3b, and DH. 40 LF, and 26 @2b) for Alvarez, Bregman, Paredes, and Walker.

That's 138 games each, or some combination of 96 total games off (24 each) for rest or injury with a built in backup.

If the team still has money in the budget they can sign/trade for a LH outfielder but this way the lineup is 5 deep with 20% or better above average bats and the youngsters get an opportunity to develop/Chas gets a chance to regain 2023.

Like really, they offered him a deal he said no, at that point it was over and the Astros moved on and got 2 players for less than Bregman.

    I know it's a huge Longshot.1%? 2%?

But know that the Astros have strengthened their chances in 2026 and 2027 maybe he wants to be a part of it?

I can see teams thinking this option is gone so they reduce their offer

And Astros swoop in and agree to the 6 year deal.

A guy can dream can't he?

Dream yes, but he has no fit on this team right now or in the future. We traded for 2 3B in the deal for Tucker. They should be all the proof you needed that the Astros weren't seriously pursuing him any longer.

Astros are right at the luxury tax. They're done, lock this thread and come back for the spring training thread...

They need to trade Pressley and Caratini and sign an OF.

I like what I saw from Ben Gamel. Re-sign him for the minimum.

I don't think they are going to sign another expensive player, but if they were, then they might as well just sign Teoscar. They can trade Caratini and Pressly if needed for salary relief to do it.

I know you don't want to keep Singleton, but if you signed Teoscar and kept him as a bench bat, against RHP on days where Yordan plays LF they could roll out this lineup:

    Altuve
    Paredes
    Yordan
    Teoscar
    Walker
    Diaz
    Singleton
    Chas
    Pena
