Everyone else is playing defense and are arguably better I don't see anyone here defending Alpi's inefficiency as "hater, why you btching he has to play defense"
Schizophrenia is a serious condition that I don't want to diagnose willy nilly but you might want to check up with a mental health professional about it.
This was a while ago so I'm almost certainly not capturing all of it or exactly what JVG said. But it does ring true. A good shooter consistently makes shots; making shots consistently is why they are good. Anyone - literally anyone - can string together a few shots in a row. Being able to do that doesn't mean you're a good shooter. Also, being streaky is bad; it's not a good thing.
If you told a average NBA fan that Jalen Green and Sengun have the same scoring efficiency they'd be shocked. Why do you think that is?
Boston, Cleveland, and OKC also expend tremendous defensive energy, but manage to play good offense. Our lack of offense is because we play bad offense not because we play good defense. If we want to be a contender we have to be really good at both so fans have every right to b*tch when we are putting a putrid offense on the floor. 27th in offense is not acceptable and it is up to the FO and coach to figure out what needs to be done. I'm one of the most patient fans you will ever encounter and see this as still a development year as oppossed to a playoffs or bust year, but I do expect them to take action on improving this offense instead of kicking it down the road and blaming it on defensive effort.
Jalen Green isn't a "good shooter". He neither is a non shooting threat. He makes threes in bunches. He's streaky. Again, a good way to tell between a fundamentally bad shooter and a streaky shooter is how opposing defenses react to the player making two threes in a row. For example when Amen makes two threes in a row, the opposing defense isnt going to change their defensive plan of doubling off him if he's in standing at perimeter, or not closing out on him, or blitzing him on the pnr instead of drop coverage etc. When Green makes two in a row the opposing team actually fears Green could blow open the game and score 18 pts in threes in like half a quarter so they stop doing drop coverage and start blitzing him when he's the ball handler in a pnr possession or exert a lot energy trying to deny Green the ball in inbound plays and dho hand off attempts.
All of them have elite offensive players smack dab in the middle of their prime years. And I'm sure our offensive numbers would be a bit higher with a Eastern conference schedule.
Maybe because Sengun has always been more efficient except for the first third of this season and most reasonable observers would understand that his efficiency is an anomaly and is also effected by FVV''s and Jalen's regression as perimeter players. Our offensive problems are with spacing and the greatest impediment to having better spacing is our guard play. There is absolutely no pennance for team's to pay for packing the paint and double and tripling Sengun in the post. Ime is also partly responsible for running the same rotations and play sets when they are obviously not working.
I understand that Sengun deserves the benefit of a doubt from a quarter season of inefficient scoring. I'm addressing a specific claim that Sengun gets the same level of criticism for his lack of efficiency for this season as Jalen which is absolutely not the case. I am making no claim that this disproportionate criticism is t deserved Yes Sengun deserves more benefit of the doubt.
Um, what team have you been watching? Dillon Brooks has been fantastic on & off the court. All his teammates like the guy
Not only that Sengun offers other things than just scoring. Jalen is a scorer and if he can’t score efficiently, it is hard to justify him on the floor. That’s why his efficiency gets much more criticized imo.
A streaky shooter is making 4 straight, then missing 3 in a row, and making 3 straight, missing 4 in a row... A bad shooter is making 4 straight, then missing 7 in a row, and making 2 straight, missing 5 in a row... At the end of the day, you look at the total average and know whether a guy is good or bad at shooting. You keep denying efficiency as a measure of Jalen's shooting ability, Efficiency is just shooting average. If he was streaky with a high average, nobody would complain about his shooting.
Jordan Poole has roughly the same 3pt percentage as Green from the last two previous seasons. Do you classify Amen and Poole as "bad shooters" ? Do you think they should be in the same classification? Do you think NBA defenses feel any need to change their defensive strategy(such as stop playing drop coverage and start blitzing) when Poole makes two in a row vs Amen making two threes in a row? Inconsistent: guys like Jalen, Poole, young Booker etc. Bad: Thompson twins, Andre Roberson, young Lou Dort(gives hope for Amen) Something like ft percentage also indicates if they are truly a bad shooter at the core mechanical level. There are exceptions like Westbrook but he obviously had poor mechanics on his shot. Too much use of the wrist that creates a distinct two motion non fluid shot, jumps as high as possible etc.
I think that's what it boils down to. Being consistently good on average as a shooter. See what those averages are for the entire season, and not in random weeks or spurts. By the end of the season is when you should see how much any young player has improved compared to their prior years. Then decisions should be made if their salary is worth the investment, or if there are players more capable in that role to take your team to a higher level.
Last season 5th with most missed threes only 23rd with most made threes This season 11th with most missed threes only 31st with most made threes
I don't understand what you are trying to argue. Yes, people are comparing Jalen to Poole. That's the problem. Poole was a huge disappointment the last three or four seasons after a couple of promising seasons at the beginning of his career. Do you want Jalen to end up like Jordan Poole? And comparing 3pt shooting of Poole to Amen? One guy shoots 7 3s a game. The other barely one per game. One dude has a career 34% average (not impressive). The other dude has a career 20% average.
