Because with Walker and Singleton on the same roster: Diaz and Caratini Altuve, Dubon, Paredes, Pena, Singleton, and Walker Yordan That leaves 4 spots for outfielders and your starting CF and RF can't hit RHP and every other OF on your roster had negative WAR last year.
If there's ever a time for Crane to exceed the tax threshold significantly... it's now. Go get a Santander or an OF bat like that.
Dude let it go. They had Abreu and Singleton on the same roster, they can have Walker and Singleton on the same roster.
They did. But that team had a rock in RF so only had to juggle 2 OF positions, not all 3. We will see.
I think they had Abreu and Singleton on the same roster because Abreu stunk so bad. They were trying to nurse him along in favorable match ups and get something of worth from him. If you have a legit mlb starting first baseman on the team then there is really no need for Singleton.
The 13th position player on the vast majority of rosters gets <200 pa. How to get the most value out of that limited playing time is very subjective but one of the best ways is to have a good bench bat that can work a good pinch hit ab and has potential to change the game with one swing. Pinch hitting for Pena or McCormick or Meyers late in a game against a RHP is an ideal role for Singleton. The other alternatives are to have a pinch runner, an extra utility player, or a 3rd catcher. None of those roles fo me carry more value than what Singleton can bring as a PH.
Wonder if Passan changed around any of the words or just straight copy-pasted that after Boras texted it to him.
When he runs a franchise to two WS championships, 4 pennants, and 7 consecutive ALCS appearances he can start critiquing the Astros use of payroll.
If we aren’t going to trade for Robert (I would trade Framber for him essentially) I would actually be fine with just signing Winker, keeping Singleton and having Dezenzo up. V LHP OF of Meyers, McCormick, Dubon. v RHP at MMP Yordan, Winker, Dezenzo with singleton at DH.
But as soon as they needed to figure out RF too they ditched Abreu so Singleton was the only 1b only player on the roster. I just hope they don't tie up 2 roster spots on 1B, that's all. Of course they CAN I just think that opens up more problems that I want to see as a fan, that's all.
