Good. He is 31 - 6 years is a long time for someone that struggles for long portions of the season with his bat.
I've only mentioned Christian Walker for first base cause I didn't know Pete Alonso could be a potential option. If he is that's awesome. If not I would still be happy with Christian Walker.
You're saying Crane wouldn't accept one extra year of Alex Bregman at a net cost of $0 (where they could simply cut him after yr 6 if they wanted)? That makes no sense.
It would still cost him $180M either way. I'm saying if given the choice between: 6 yrs at $30M and 7 yrs at $25.7M Both are $180M He may very well think that saving $4.3M each year is not enough incentive to be stuck with the contract for a 7th year.
Kepler was mediocre at best last year and just signed for 1/10. That gives you an idea of what these guys on one year deals expect. The Astros are targeting better players - but the fact he got 1/10, explains why the Astros were willing to do 3/42 for Arenado. These guys want (and may get) money that fans will raise an eyebrow at. 10 million isn’t a huge amount in baseball terms in 2024 - but it is more than most expected. These guys are waiting for the dam to break and teams to do what they have in the past - overpaid for marginal players.
How about 3 yrs 63 mil for a guy that's a GG guy that can hit 30 HR's. Do ypu believe Walker can keep up that level of production the next 3 years? I do. So really this comes down to how much do you think the value of a 2nd/5th rd pick is worth? My case is a 30 HR guy that's a GG winner is worth that. Of course I could be wrong, but after seeing Singleton play 1B, I value defense more than most, Especially with Paredes playing 3B, Essentially you're replacing one GG with another, but you're getting more production out of both corner inf positions. I get that you're a prospect guy, but let' let this train keep on rolling. That's unless you dont believe in the pitching and if you dont I respectfully disagee, Add Walker, trade for Robert and I'll take my chances.
I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Bregman, a big outfielder, a bargain outfielder
What if Nolan said he'd only agree to that trade to the Astros if Bregman was resigned. hmmmm Sure they play the same position, but let's have fun shall we
Bregman to 2nd and Altuve to LF would make the most sense. Paredes has no business in the outfield. He is slow-footed and has the body of a 53 year old. Jorge Polanco was the only 2nd basemen who was worse defensively than Altuve last season.
