I remember checking for evidence this past offseason that Jalen would thrive in such a system. So I looked at on/off court stats in minutes with him and no non-shooters. And the numbers sucked. Now I'll admit last year there were only like 100 minutes in which Jalen played with Jabari as stretch-5, but I assume most of that came during our winning streak after Sengun went out. So if wasn't good even during that stretch against tanking teams, it's probably not something that needs to be explored. Which I think you're already alluding to, but just adding it might be even worse than you think.
@Corrosion likely is talking about his mother’s t*tties, which are the only pair he’s seen. Or he might be talking about cannibalism.
At the end of the day, the idea of him being a lead guard is pretty clearly dead. Even if people want to argue he would be good at driving to the basket if you built the system fully around him, he can't shoot and he's not a good passer/creator, so there's no point in building the system for him. It's been such a bummer this season, career lows in efficiency and assist %, career high in turnovers (which was basically his one good trait).
87% is a really really good percentage, and usually means a player should be a decent to good shooter at the very least everywhere else. The fact that Jalen’s shooting career lows in every other area, irrespective of “system” means that he needs to either alter his shot diet, or simplify (or be more focused? I dunno if that’s a thing). Maybe his improvement at the line is a harbinger for good things to come for his jumper—I certainly hope so!
He's one of the worst shooters from mid range in the NBA, his volume there is unacceptable for his performance, cutting that out would turn him from one of the worst shooters in the NBA to merely a below average one.
What is he supposed to do though? If he can't shoot mid range or 3s, hard to be a guard and have a shaq type shot diet
Perhaps this year but I invite you to look at his first 3 years relative to his peers and Rocket fan favorite Anthony Edwards. Funny how fans ignored his mid range game these first 3 years instead focusing on 3’s but now bring it up only when it is convenient to fit into their narrative of hate.
His 1st year, 3rd year, 4th year mid range stats are AWFUL. 2nd year he was ok but only in the 10-16 foot range which was 8% of his attempts, everywhere else he was also bad.
As much as I'm a Jalen fan he isnt good enough a talent to build around. He cant be a complement to another star but he can be the Giannis of a team. His good traits right now are driving, defense, rebounding and being clutch. His biggest weakness is shooting which has been his weakness since his rookie year. If he fixes his jumpshot he is instantly a star in the league since it would unlock everything in his game..
How can he be a giannis of a team? Giannis is about massive volume on elite efficiency, unless you mean that he needs the whole thing to be built around him?
I’m certain you’re a super nice guy and I sincerely wish you an amazing Christmas and/or holiday season but this is exactly the kind of stuff that makes me want to write a super WTF! post and then I remember at this point there’s maybe 2 people on this website at this point who would even entertain the notion that Giannis and Jalen are comparable at this point. At this point I’m hoping it’s a typo. Please say that’s a typo. At this point please say it’s a typo.
