Get rid of the 3pt shot and basketball would be great again!

While we at it, there should be no super maxes, or even a max......

Salaries go up in inflation times but the base level should be much lower.

And role player's money should go way up......to balance it out.

No star player calls and treatment, no star player wages (at least massively reduced).

And then tackle the 3 point line .... invent new rules.....

Interesting. It would totally destroy all records, but mathematically it makes sense.

Yeah, keep the rules the same but just let defenders hit 3-point shooters in the crotch. That would take care of everything.

There werent any movement during the 90s/2000s era, it was considered the most boring era of basketball with ISO players left and right, very little team play and games were low scoring but lasted a long time since it became a ft contest at the end. That was the era of Iso heavy guards like Iverson, Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury.

Funny you mention Kings and Princeton since that team was one of the few 3 pt centric teams in that era. Bibby and Stojakovic were prolific 3 pt shooters and Divac and Webber took a lot of mid range shots.

Keep the three, but allow hand checking and don't have defensive 3 seconds

Just play the game with 2 basketballs. All other rules stay the same.

Yup that idea is perfect in theory but would never happen. Completely nerfs the "3 point" shot.

Elimination of the corner 3 seems to be the most obvious incremental change.

    ChatGPT summary

    Summary
    If corner 3s were eliminated:

    • 3P percentages would likely drop by ~2-4 percentage points league-wide.
    • Teams would lose their most efficient three-point option.
    • Offensive strategies would shift to emphasize mid-range and paint scoring.
This change would dramatically reduce the effectiveness of the 3-point shot and likely balance offensive shot selection.

    Summary of Changes
    If hand-checking were reintroduced:

    • Scoring would decline, especially from the perimeter.
    • 3-point shooting percentages and attempts would drop.
    • The game would become slower and more physical, resembling the style of the 1990s.
    • Teams would lean more on post-up play and mid-range shooting.

The NBA changed the Screen rules because of Golden State and Steph Curry. Go back to the old screen rules and that will cause a reduction of 3pt attempts. It would make it harder for smaller players to set screens and force rosters to have bigs like Steven Adams if they want to have good screens as part of their offense.

Most of this clip is illegal Draymond Green screens to get shooters open.

Another good incremental change idea. The NBA should stray from doing something too radical.

How about hockey rules where you let them fight and then put them in a penalty box. That would drive ratings through the roof!! No more ejections and suspensions, just time out. Draymond might not make it through the season alive cause everyone would be looking to get their licks in. Kill 2 birds with one stone. No pun intended.

Offenses have always been cookie cutter. Teams have always been copying each other. It's not just basketball. It's true for every sport because there are ways in every sport that maximizes results and they are used by everybody that plays that sport. Why is it an issue?
