I absolutely do not believe Green is good enough to do what Giannis does, but I do believe in that system he can give you 25 above average efficiency points for a scoring SG (with 6-7 FT's, decent defense and 4-5 assists). The way I think about it is this: whatever suits Jalen also suits Amen and Tari who are also good at doing damage if there's space in the paint. So what we would gain is more than just an improvement in Green. We'd gain more points in the paint, which would also reduce the proportion of 3's we would need to make to be successful. The team is already shooting way more than it's capable from 3. Do I think the team should shift to this? No way, team is doing great can't change what's working currently. What I think Ime needs to do is to overlap Green with the second unit (play as little as possible with Sengun for now) so that the second unit can run Green and 4 shooters. Or Green+Amen and 3 of our best shooters (like Jabari, McVeigh, Sheppard). Ime is out there obsessing about how amazing it would be to get from 2nd best defense to best. I'm thinking right now our roster choices make it so that we have to consider: maybe it's worth becoming the 4th best defensive team if it helps us move up 5-10 spots offensively? If we're not adding to the pie, something's gotta give and I feel like there's a LOT of underutilized offensive skill on this team. Just think about it man, write a paragraph for what would happen to your team's wings if you always had the worst spacing? How much better can your post player be if he has better spacing? We need to explore these ideas.
I get that you have a subjective generalized view of how it must be impossible for anything else to happen but what you're expecting, but I was just pointing out that you were basing your opinion on the idea that if he's not a good shooter then he's useless. Green is a downhill player, you're just keeping tabs on the wrong thing. On shooting, what he needs is just to half his volume so that he can make 36%. He can't make league average efficiency in the 5-10 attempts range. Easy to fix. If we acquired a big shooter right now to replace Brooks/Jabari, Green's attempts would drop and his efficiency would go up significantly. The big issue is - as he builds muscle to do it in a crowded paint - can we not have the worst spacing in the NBA when we have two great slashers with no 3PT shot (Green and Amen) making around 70% in the restricted area? Can we try that? They say spacing might matter in the NBA. I don't care much for coddling either, I just want to generate offense for my team with what we have because the team says this is what we have.
You're underestimating how much the defense would drop off. The spacing is not really THAT bad, and certainly not worst in the league or anything close to that. FVV while he has been bad this season is a historically good 3pt shooter, brooks is ok (granted nobody guards him cause why would you), jabari has been decent. I just feel like if jalen really had it, he would simply be doing much better than he is. Denver does everything they can to make it as hard as possible for jokic to succeed, yet they can't stop him. The warriors constantly play at least 3 non shooters around curry but he's still able to drive offense.
Shai Gilgeous Alexander vs Bucks 21pts 4 rebs 2 assists 8/24 fg 2/9 3 pt 3/4 ft 1st Seed in the West Scores Only 81 points.
Strange I think looney historically has given him way more issues than Draymond. I thought he was scoring well that game cuz they put Draymond on him instead of Looney. We can both agree that he needs to be a better shooter. The good thing is that he's showing to improve. Adding a pull up mid range game with the flamingo.
Nice attempt to be creative with a comeback but that absolutely makes zero sense. You insulted your own intelligence with that shi+. But why would anything make sense coming out your mouth? You can’t even properly analyze and articulate what you see on the court. Instead of wasting time writing corny comebacks how about you learn the game of basketball.
Oh no, it's the worst. We're horrific in FG%, TS%, 3PT%, Assists. Teams might as well put a bench in the paint with the way they're playing, and we're just out here talking about what a coincidence it is that the offense needs the starters to take way more 3's than they're capable of lol. That's just teams daring them to shoot and us taking the bait easier than anyone in the NBA. There are even teams with below average shooters like ours who are scoring better. If you wrote an essay of what would happen to a team if it had extremely poor spacing, all of those things have happened to us. It's not debatable. I don't know how you're measuring spacing, but shooting is the dominant factor and movement can help. There are other small factors but it's mostly shooting and execution. We are not good at those, and Udoka has never been good at those. There's no sign that we're even an average spacing team.
Fortunately, my ideas are ingredients in Ime's cooking, because exactly as I predicted, he's talking about finding ways to get to the basket more. Like clock work, around game 40 of every season Ime has ever coached. The offense will get better and we'll brush under the rug the fact that we could have applied the same small changes earlier in the season. I know Ime will figure it out but as a fan I really want him to get better at that or be able to trust someone who's better at that (a lead assistant). We need offense right now and the GM says we're not trading anyone. I'd love to hear some tactical ideas about how we can generate more offense with this group rather than accept our fate as the 3rd worst TS% team in the NBA. We're obviously more talented than that. I have faith in this whole group to produce more offense this season, not just Jalen. Call me crazy.
Curry does not constantly play with 3 non shooters. He played mostly in lineups with Waters and Wiggins. And Kuminga isn’t a non shooter. Non means not at all. You are also assuming all these teams play the same style and run the same sets. They don’t. Warriors run a lot of offball screens, flares, and pindowns. Denver runs multiple actions thru Jokic and that starting lineup was built to suit his style unlike the Rockets and Sengun. As I said before the Rockets personnel don’t match Sengun’s style of play. They’re fast and athletic and aren’t consistent 3pt shooters. They also don’t have a lot of movement on offense or off ball screens to get players open. But instead run everything thru Sengun with FVV in a predictable half court set. I explained the Rockets limited movement, lack of screens along with teams playing zone or zone switch because we can’t shoot as part of the reason. Green not getting touches compounds this issue. I say it again despite the Bi+ches on this site not knowing how to read that the other part is on him to stop deferring to Sengun when he has the lane and to be more agressive to the paint. Example: on screen and rolls once Sengun sets the screen he doesn’t even attempt to challenge his man on the switch or drop. Instead he takes 1-2 dribbles and immediately dumps to Sengun on the short roll even when he has a clear angle on his defender.
I have so many questions here... Where is this sack that you speak of? Do you have to be hungry to fall into it? etc., etc...
Jabari Smith struggling with his threes beginning of the season - he worked hard to fix it and improved now he's shooting 40%+ on threes last 15 games Amen Thompson can't shoot - he improved his 3 pt shooting now its 38% last 15 games he works hard on his shot selection always agresssive attacking the rim and only takes jump shots which are in the flow of the offense that's why he has has 60% TS Alpi missing gimmes right now - it's on him he needs to work on in and improve either make the shots or pass the ball FVV missing threes right now - it's on him he needs to work on in and improve either make his threes or pass the ball after a bad 3 yr shooting efficiency, this year he's even worse - it's the system, coaching, alpi, team composition, having to play defense etc...
Jalen Green is changing the game. Stern is threatening to move the three point line back to highlight his style of game again.
Honestly this team could be a championship contender THIS SEASON if Jalen was shot into the ocean and replaced by a competent 3 point shooter and defender.
