Individual game plus-minuses don't really tell you much. For example Jalen had a 0+/- yesterday. Does that mean he was needed in the win, and the Rockets would have won with an average starting level replacement SG? Of course not. Jock Landale has the second highest +/- on the team over this hot streak, does that mean he deserves consideration for a max deal extension along with Halen? Of course not.
Amens impact is very under stated. These pesty players can really kill the other teams rhythms without having to dominate the ball. It's demoralizing when the other team plays great defense and force a miss only for Amen to just come out of nowhere and get a tip in. On defense he will guard your best player on the perimeter, poke at random ball for steals, and then come out of nowhere and block your layup. Just a true swiss army knife Now to be a true star Amen had a lot to work on, from ball handling to shooting to making layups on drives. But he's just so damn useful everywhere else that hes already winning us games.
I love Amen so much. I lean in hard on defense…see my moniker. Guys who just bust ass to win and don’t rely on anything but their own effort. My favorite type of player. Yeah, Amen over Scoot for sure for sure.
I said 3 years ago that he already peaked and would have no upside in the NBA. I truly cannot understand why this was not obvious to everyone. After the much-balleyhooed games against Victor 2 years ago, I told my son Scoot would not be drafted #2.
Reed is not playing well because he is DD's favorite. didnt know he was jinxed before entering the nba. makes sense.
Scoot was on paper the right pick for the Rockets in a similar vein to why Jalen Green was the right pick for the Rockets in the 2021 draft. His calling card was being a floor general and the Rockets was coming off a season when they looked like they don't even know how to run basic NBA plays. I can't speak for his hype elsewhere, but I thought he was the right fit for the Rockets biggest need at the time. So I personally would've been happier if he dropped to 4. And btw, the Rockets biggest need right now is still what a hypothetical successful Scoot would bring. With FVV's sudden decline, the team still need a point guard, especially if Ime is not willing to put Amen in that position.
I was wrong to think Scoot was the clear #2 in this class. I mean, he can still turn it around, but it ain't lookin good. Was right to say "this is a deep class, not a two player class" though. Also still think Amen is/will continue to be better than Brandon Miller.
I didn't watch a lot of film on Scoot, but I trusted the scouts. It's wild how wrong they/we were. I suppose he still has time to turn it around but man, he looks bad.
The knock on Amen coming into the draft was his inability to shoot. He has the second best shooting percentage out of that entire draft, behind Derek Lively part II, a center who takes 5 shots per game.
