It’s been 4 years. He’s turning 29. He regressed at the plate last year. Nobody was offering anything for him. Time to call it. (As far as being an everyday player that will somehow figure it out at the plate).
I am torn. On the one hand, I am completely done with Jake Meyers and will be very disappointed if he is more than a 30% platoon starter vs LHP. I would love it if they could just trade him. On the other hand I REALLY REALLY want him to have an 800 OPS season with 20 HR just to stick it to the haters. FWIW, I want Chas to have a great season too.
I dont see it this way and I like Bregs and want him to be a Stros lifer. Most I would go would be 6 yrs 180 mil and that might be on the higher scale. If he doesn't take it then fine, put Paredes at 3b and sign Walker to a 3 year 60 million dollar deal. Then trade for 3years of Robert at 15 mil for the next 3 years.
I love Bregs but have come to terms that he's gone. We're going to have to rebuild (somewhat) again. On Meyers, he's just a bench guy and a late inning defensive replacement. This team needs a lot. We'll see what we get for Framber
Ok. I get this and you certainly aren't the only one. But why? What is it about that 7th year when he is 37 that is so terrible? And why is it a problem for the Astros and for you?
I believe you about Jake. because he is your blue lagoon fantasy. but the lies about Chas are unbecoming sir.
No lies. I would never wish any Astro to be bad. I don't think or expect he will rebound. Unlike many, it's 2023 that I think is the outlier, not 2024. I simply think his short lived, over achieving peak is done. But I hope I'm wrong. I rejoice when any and all Astros succeed.
Hmm, latest tweet (i suck, don’t know how to imbed) says Yankees focused on 4 first basemen since talks for Bellinger have stalled. So where is that 7/200 offer that Bregs and Boras are demanding?
Unless they get a team to bid against themselves, they know that there won’t necessarily be a bidding war for him. The most they’re going to have of that is Crane increasing his offer (which they’ve had a penchant to consider when they really do want to retain a player, which I believe they do). The “biggest” free agent Crane has won out on the open market was JV back in 2022… and even then, it took a team unfriendly deal to secure it that ultimately bit him and they had to unload more resources to get him back. So that may have adjusted his line of thinking in terms of adjusting offers to “win” the FA. The Bregman’s don’t seem to have their hearts set on anything, or they’re just letting it all play out as why would they be in a rush?
Mostly guess, although Boston has been widely reported as involved with Bregman. Both Boston and Toronto were involved with Soto and have the money, willingness, and positional need (although he’d be playing 2B in Boston).
Meyers is basically Marisnick 2.0. Lot of hype because of his glove but never became much more than a 4th outfielder. No way you go into the season with he and Chas as your starters.
