I'll jump in on this conversation. I just want Parsons back. The real Rockets GOAT.

 

that's the difference of what having a superstar player. Superstar players find ways to make something happen when teams try to scheme them out.

 

1. They ran PnR to death. What other looks is MDA coming to install? They literally didn't run any other set for like 3 years straight. Do we have that caliber of player? Do we have a roll threat like Capela? Do we have a band of above average shooters to space out the floor? And why would he after being unceremoniously dumped by Tildo? Just saying MDA like it's feasible, let alone reasonable isn't a good take.
2. No. I just know they're in the past.
3. Bro if I was bringing anybody back from the past his name Hakeem Olajuwon. Duh.

 

The other layer to the issues is that guys who were drafted for their elite shooting - SMITH #3 and SHEPPARD #3, are not getting anywhere close to their hype or college stats. They are vastly underperforming and beyond Jalen's dismal performance this year, they are the other reasons the Rockets offense sucks. They miss wide open shots constantly. The defenses don't have to glue themselves to those guys.

 

Jabari is at 36% from 3 for the season and over 40% last 10 games. He had 14 points on 8 shots last night. We'll see if he can keep the 3% up over 40 for a season but as far as being close to college production he's pretty dang close. If defenses wanna let Jabari shoot, by all means, what the actual **** are we doing on offense not giving him 20 looks a night?

 

Jabari is shooting 44.3% 3FG over last 14 games … more than half the season, now.

 

He often gets ignored when wide open for a spot-up. He does at times take too long to shoot. There was one instance in the last game he was wide open with Sengun looking right at hiim and Sengun instead tried to throw it to Jalen in the corner and was intercepted. I see this fairly frequently. I don't think he is intentionally ignored, I think they have just got in a habit after his poor start. It needs to be emphasized by the coaches to give him more looks.

 

The shooting has to be mental at this point. Just when you think they can't shoot any worse, they go out and prove you wrong. FVV needs to spread it around, share it a bit more when he's clearly off.

Clearly we need to make some adjustments offensively, need to focus on getting guys who are actually playing decent, like Jabari, the ball in a position to score more.

Also, this team is dumb as rocks sometimes. With the 3 point attempt fouls and poorly run fast breaks that lead to charges you can see coming a mile away. I think that's mostly youth and a splash of Dillon though.

 

It’s not even the shooting. Not just the shooting rather… his whole game looks settled in and on a level of comfort. I think he’s primed to be scaled up. I’m not talking crazy but he’s not even at 10 fg attempts per game this season. Dillon is over 11. That’s an easy switch for me as armchair coach/gm.

He holds good numbers until all star maybe scale up one more time for the stretch run.

That’s fair. Dillon is the irrational confidence guy anyway. Jabari should be getting more shots up. If that means Fred and Jalen feel less of a unrelenting green light on hoisting up 10 without the makes to back up those decisions, that’s 2 wins.

 

December 6th through December 18th the Rockets only have 3 games. What bullshit.

This schedule is ruining my Christmas spirit.

 

There were several missed open looks, but... there were also a lot of ugly passes and bad off-balance shots. Granted, we were also playing against, apparently, the single best defense in the NBA, so maybe not the best metric for our young team.
