I'm an old geezer out of touch with the new music of the day. So, I've spent the day going through NPR Music's list of the best songs of 2024...124 songs and I've found it difficult to connect with much of it. I come from the LP-oriented world rather than singles. You younger folk help me stay in touch, so thanks; keep it up. Modern music in today's world seems meh. I'm posting some that I found interesting and would love feedback and recommendations. Any of these artists worth a deeper dive?
Yes to the last two. Especially Waxahatachee ( and her side group Plains). She started out as more of a lo-fi indie-rock outfit but has evolved to put out really good Americana/Alt-Country. The last two albums have been really good. MJ Lenderman I'm really only familiar with the 2024 album, but like it a lot. Early Days Spoiler Newer stuff Spoiler
I posted about them in the past and it was probably this video. I think that the woman and the man on the Bass & Guitar are from the Houston area while I forgot where the drummer is from.
They appear to be to a Latin American version of Khruangbin. The woman is playing and swaying just like the woman in Khruangbin does. In this video, they do a tribute when they switch things up towards the end.
That first yuck album was so good. And then the lead singer left the band and they never really released anything of note again.
Synchronicity in action...Waxahatchee Tiny Desk Concert dropped today... Loving this... Edit: more synchronicity, Khruangbin in Austin...
