Interesting thing is that there was just announced some third party keyboard/mouse setup that was able to be used for the current XBOX.

This made quite a big noise on the gaming boards. (About how 'unfair' it would be for controller-using gamers)

Lots of folks didn't seem to believe that MS wanted that kind of thing to happen anyway; that they would have released this kind of stuff for the current XBOX already if it were true.

I thought they were being naive. :)

Personally, I firmly believe that this kind of hybrid will be a done deal soon enough.

In theory, yes. Microsoft is working on something called XNA which will make it easier to port games onto other platforms, such as from the Xbox to PC and vice versa. This may have actually been their plan all along and this has been pretty well-known for a while. I still don't know if Microsoft can succeed in the console market, but maybe they don't even care. They may have just wanted to spark some kind thing where we would basically only have one system to play on. I'm not sure how this could play out next-gen. Chances are that that Xbox 2/Xenon will be much more powerful than an PC at the time of launch and later on there will be a lot of PC's that will be more powerful than Xbox 2/Xenon, so this may be a little harder to implement. I also wonder if Microsoft cares whether or not people will buy their next console when they could just play the games on their PC. However, they'd probably be losing money on the actual console itself and actually be making more of a profit by bringing console type games to the PC. They could just make another Fable or Halo and they would end up getting the money from the amount sold anyways, whether they're for the PC or the console. Plus, this would also open up Xbox Live for PC users and allow people from both platforms to play each other.

I guess it is somewhat bold, yet I think Sony is also trying to do something similar, although I think their's would be a little more console-port centered intstead of actually taking PS3 games and playing them on the a PC.
