Bregman's career OPS is propped up by his two superstar 2018 and 2019 seasons. He won't sniff another .840 OPS season. You pay the player based on what he will produce now and the future, not on what he did in the past. I'd still like to see him back but not at over $200M. The offer we gave him is fair, maybe we bump it up a little but no need to bid against ourselves. Offseason isn't over yet so the Astros should still be favored to win a weak AL West. Still a couple more moves to make.
Honestly, it's most likely not even relevant, the Astros are likely to move him because they aren't going to pay him.
If Bregman is gone (assuming so) just roll with Paredes at 3rd, grab a 1B and for god’s sake Jim, fix the outfield. Random thought, and I’m probably wrong - are we playing games? Maybe they’re threatening Arenado as a message to Bregman if he doesn’t have many suitors. Long shot but with them continuing to say we’re all in on Bregman, just made me think. Who the hell knows at this point - @Nook any birdies chirping?
I wasn't arguing that they should pay him, only that Astros have likely lost him and didn't adequately replace his production. Jim Craine doesn't have the money to toss a fortune at guys well beyond their productive career without having those contracts cripple the organization.
How do u keep calling Brown inconsistent? Yes he got off to a rough start after that he was awesome the rest of the year. And saying Framber was bad nost of the year is also very wrong.
I don't see how they keep Framber. You are in a position where you have to trade him in my opinion. You at least have some wildcards at pitcher. New guy from Cubs. arrighetti, Javier, garcia, McCullers, maybe resign Verlander for cheap and he bounces back to form. Blubaugh maybe. There are no wildcards to fix what amounts to the worst outfield in baseball. They have to trade Framber and do like they did with Tucker, perhaps a slight downgrade from Frambers value to whatever you get in return but an added prospect or two as well.
Maybe they’re trying to get all these hitters that would crush at Minute Maid so we can win a damn home game in the post season.
Outside of the bandbox and thin air known as Asheville, he's only ever raked for 11 games to end up the 2023 season in Corpus. Decidedly non-raking the rest of the other 230 minor league games. I think Dezenzo switching to right field and raking is far more likely than Melton raking
Maybe Brown has something up his sleeve… Massive package to deal Framber and Peña…. Get Arenado and re-sign Bregman. Make Bregman the offer of SS. Nolan at 3rd… Receive a solid hitting OF in the trade… A man can dream right
Not sure I agree with that. Dezenzo, Whitcomb, Leon, Matthews, and Melton can all play OF and they all have 20/20 and 3+ fwar potential. Just depends on which one can limit the strikeouts enough to get max production from their athleticism.
The ignore function is one of the great innovations of life. I apply it to all sorts of people, generally. Why be bothered by idiots if you don't have to?
Because that's what I would call a pitcher who can go 6 scoreless one outing and then gives up 5 earned runs on 9 hits in 5 innings in the next outing. I see that I've really upset the homers and the casuals who get the vapours any time someone expresses less than glowing praise. It's fine. As I've said, Hunter Brown is one of my favorite players and I think he's got the highest ceiling among the pitching staff, but he's young and was inconsistent last year, so it's not a guarantee that he's amazing this upcoming season. Take a minute to calm down if you need it before continuing. Anyway, it's been fun, but there doesn't seem to be all that much intelligent conversation happening here so I'm going to head out. Keep up the faith that what is left of the Astros is going to win 120 games before sweeping the playoffs and don't let reality shatter that illusion if you can manage.
Dave Parker was a bad ass mother ****er. Also Eric Davis would have been one of the goats if not for injuries. Excluding (eyeroll) Ohtani, Eric Davis is still the most talented player I’ve ever seen play.
