Had to happen. We can't keep losing our stars to FA, but ugh. Hard to imagine they wanted Paredes if they felt any confidence in keeping Bregman.

Here's hoping Cam Smith can be legit.

Paredes can play multiple positions and could be a 40 homer guy in our park.

If he's at first because Bergman's at third, that's fine.

Definitely a solid backup plan if the money gets silly on Breg. He gives them walkaway without getting desperate.

I thought it was a solid deal. We filled in 2 major league spots for 1 and added a prospect.

Hate to see him go, but it was probably for the best for everyone.

Wesneski could be lowkey value. Solid K rate, and really good BB rate. Not going to blow you away, but could be an improvement in that swing role that Bielak used to be in. Definitely see him as an improvement over France.

We’ll see how it all shakes out, but my back of the envelope:

Lost ~4 wins in 2025 in RF.
    Gained ~2 wins in 2025 at 3B.
    Gained ~0.5 win in 2025 at P.
Gained ~$10M in 2025 available payroll, which should be converted to ~1 win.
So the 2025 net is they traded away ~1 win.

    Beyond 2025:
They added ~2 net wins in 2026 and 2027 at 3B in Paredes.
They added ~4 net wins from 2026-2032 in Smith.
They added ~2 net wins from 2026-2030 in Wesneski.

Trading 1 win this season for 8 wins over the following 6 seasons is a good trade. And there’s upside for a lot more.

I am trying to take solace in playing him at 1B wouldn't be much different than having Yuli at 1B (before he fell off). Though, I don't just assume Parades will hit the same in MMP Daikin Park. Pitchers will likely change how they pitch to him.

I think Astros did alright with this trade. Kinda excited now to see what they get with Framber trade.

I love this trade. At the end of the day, I doubt very seriously the Astros were going to re-sign Tucker. If you wait till the trade deadline…with this team you’re likely leading the division or close thereto at the trade deadline. No way you’re trading Tuck then. Had to be done.

Paredes was 18th in MVP voting in 2022…and was an All Star in 2023. He’s 25 years old, and can play virtually everywhere in the IF aside from SS. Is he our 1B? Maybe 3B if we don’t retain Bregman.

Cam Smith has a ton of potential. If he can play 3B instead of being an outfielder in the future, that could be a huge plus. Particularly if Brice Matthews comes up and kills it too.

We got younger (which needed to happen) and added a solid infielder and our best prospect (along with a Houston kid as a pitcher) in exchange for a guy who was likely to walk away. Nice to get something back for one of those guys for a change.

The way I see it, we have two options moving forward…either use the funds saved by trading Tucker to bring Bregman back, or else it’s time to trade Framber as well.

I would love to keep Bregman. His knowledge of the game is instrumental and one of a kind, and provides maybe not immediately apparent or easily quantifiable value, to the team and others players, especially the prospects as they come up. Just having guys like him around him has to help.

I found the trade a bit underwhelming, but I guess we will see how these guys do.

With Cam Smith now our top prospect and already having Jeremy Pena, what does that mean for Brice Matthews?

Also sucks that someone elses 7th best prospects immediately becomes our 1st.

    It means one of:
    1) somebody will get traded
    2) somebody just won't be MLB-caliber
    3) somebody will play 1B/OF (Probably Smith)

Find guys that can play 1st, figure out the rest 2nd.

You’re saying Paredes is worth only 2 wins? Tucker being at 4 seems light too.

They saved about 10 million in the deal.

Lock up either Breg or Framber.

If Breg, they can trade Framber for a RFer and prospect.
