I'm numb to Tucker leaving, he lacked effort too many times for me to want him back long term, maybe that changes in Chicago, Springer leaving hurt me, this one not so much...
Melton and Gilbert will be 24 all next season while Loperfido is 26. What are you talking about? Regardless, let me know of a single player that has ever ENTERED a top 100 prospect list at the age of 25…as in, had never been on one and then for the first time was included.
Paredes is a Third Baseman (granted he can play 1B). Cam Smith is also a 3B……..gotta believe trading for those two means Bregman is gone gone
Bregman is long gone. I’d be happy with just one of those OF but realistically I doubt either happens.
Paredes can play 1B and 2B, Cam Smith can play 1B and likely either outfield corner if we need to move him. Just because you can play 3B doesn't mean you can't move downward to a lesser defensive position. Don't get me wrong, I fully expect Bregman is gone, but just because we added 2 third baseman doesn't mean they are locked there. Both of them have the tools to move around.
Oh, I’m not young at all. I remember the Astrodome when it was brand new. I’ve seen it all. The ups and the downs. And so it goes.
Springer leaving never did bother me one bit for some reason. He was ready to leave long before becoming a FA. I don’t care for players like that. Feel the same about Tucker.
This should be explored at least. If he had shown up in the playoffs the last two years I'd feel much differently, but I'm not paying him superstar pitcher money next year based on the last two postseasons, so might as well get value for him too.
Most Chicago Cubs fans have expected the deal to happen for the last couple days. Because it is a trade in the last year of his contract, he will essentially be viewed as a free agent signing by Cubs fans. If he struggles early, fans are going to be very hard on him. At least he isn't black so he won't quite get an many boos based on history in Chicago. It is an interesting trade from the perspective of the Cubs - they spent a lot on someone that they theoretically could have signed in 11 months as a free agent.
Where does this leave The Astros salary cap-wise? Because it feels, unless an additional “significant” move is made, the window probably just closed assuming the tea leaves that Bregman is gone are being read correctly
