Last time I saw that was 15 years ago in Clear Lake. Chubby girl was talking to three dudes. She was going to be walking funnier the next morning. Extremely rare for me to go to a bar now. Usually a bros weekend away but that’s generally at a festival or event so the bar is a secondary thing.
Okay. I like what I've seen from S2 so far (3 or 4 in). Lol. Kind of has a soap opera vibe though. And not enough gratuitous Michael Mann style Tokyo cityscape p*rn going on. Kind of surprised Watanabe's character hasn't developed much since S1. He comes off as washed and surprisingly uninteresting.
I wasn't impressed up to the first 6 episodes. I expected something like Miami Vice, even the intro from the pilot was deceptive. The American characters were also flawed and initially unlikable. Was glad I didn't jump into the first season or I'd crap on it after that 1st season finale... 2nd season made the show whole and more like The Wire. I read that they had more freedoms to make Japan's locale a part of the show after the post-Covid lockdown. Also points for letting the characters admit their flaws and display some sort of growth. It sets the feeling that those expats were there for their own reasons, rather than romanticized adventurers. Watanabe was underused imo. It felt like he retired as an actor and we got a glimpse raising his real family while doing this show part time. I guess there was a chance of giving him a bigger sized role would've been S3, but I think they would've explored more of the "marginalized" characters as social commentary... It's a good show, but the slow boil and misleading tone in the first season might've killed its chances for a 3rd season revival.
