Emirates NBA Cup 2024 (formerly in-season tournament)

Emirates can afford a 2million payout for every player, 1/2 a milly for every coach in the staff.
The NBA can afford to give the winner of the tournament an 8-10th playoff spot. It would be just for optics as many of the teams that advance are alreadt playoff teams.
According to MSN the ratings for this cup have dropped 10%

I think the quarter final teams that lose should get an easier opponent. If you lose your group you get much easier games. Like Memphis gets to play Brooklyn and lakers when gs gets Dallas. Idk seems like punishing success.

I've said from the beginning the NBA would have to put something serious on the table for this tournament to succeed long term. They realize it. I expect something for next year.

It won't be an 8th-10th playoff seed because that is no incentive at all for good teams.

 

they can expand the draft to 1 more pick in the 1st rd, so the winner gets 1 extra pick in the next draft. and maybe restructure the playoffs seeding and give the winner a bye in the first round. can also add 10 more nationally televised games (are they still doing that with streaming?)

 

Funny how all it took for me to care about the NBA Cup was the Rockets being good at it

What if the winner gets in the lottery automatically or an extra 3% for the top four picks? Good teams would want it and bad teams would want it but it would probably not amount to anything.

 

Any incentive for the future building of the team (i.e. draft picks) has no bearing for the players. They don't play for next year's team which they, except for the franchise cornerstones, may or may not be a part of. Some kind of playoffs incentive might help.

 

First tie-breaker, and HCA guaranteed for 1st round … both still requiring you actually make it to the playoffs

I think we also should not overdo it......one Coach's challenge more in 1 single Playoff game should suffice.

An extra possession like giving the ball directly to the winner of the Cup to start a Playoff game.

Do something that is not overly tipping the scale towards your team....therefore does not make it a big advantage or medium sized advantage.

 

maybe give all players on the roster player options for the remainder of their contracts.

if not financial, maybe give a season’s worth of supply of bebes for every player, where it’s guaranteed their wives/gfs won’t ever find out.
