If we can somehow pull off re-signing Bregman, which I think is a real longshot, I'm good with trading Tucker for 2x ML/ML ready bats and good prospects. It needs to be a haul though. If we lose Bregman and still trade Tucker, that's a tough pill to swallow for a team that is supposed to still be competing for a pennant.
If I were baseball czar/commish, the MLB offseason would be more structured and exciting. There would be 2 1-week free agency and trade periods, coinciding with the Winter Meetings in December and a new Spring Meetings in February. There would be a 10 round international amateur draft in January along with the Rule 5 draft, which would be moved to January. November: World Series Finale, QO/Rule 5 roster decisions December: First FA period (Dec 1-7), First trade period (Dec 8-15) January: International draft (Jan 15), Rule 5 draft (Jan 22) February: 2nd FA/ trade period (begins Feb 1, Spring Meetings take place Feb 1-7) There was a lot of unfinished business at the winter meetings and most of it would get done if there’d been a couple more days and a firmer deadline.
I see it the other way, if we somehow retain Bregman then you keep Tucker and play out his final season. If Bregman leaves then you have to trade Tucker now. The risk of having both guys walk is too great of a loss. Yes, you want to contend all the time, but you have the weather free agency as best you can too. Bregman is the first domino that will control the rest of the moves. The fact Tucker trade talks are so hot leads me to believe the Astros have already conceded the Bregman sweepstakes. IMO the only way we get him is if a Correa situation happens where he doesn't find the deal he was pushing for due to health (bone chips?) or otherwise.
Altuve took the Astros money without even hitting the market (twice), he wanted to be an Astro and not gamble to max his earnings. If reports are true, the Astros have on the table a very similar offer to what they gave Altuve (coming off an MVP season). Bregman wants more, I don't begrudge him that one bit, but it's his choice to maximize earnings. The Astros aren't chasing him away with a fake offer.
Fair point. I know they won't say otherwise publicly, but I don't want the FO thinking and operating like we are still contenders if we lose both. Almost gotta turn it into a mini-rebuild depending on what you get for Tucker.
yeah, the proposed trade the way it is. I would’ve done that last year lol … That’s a no-brainer all day
Depends on what they get back in trades for Tucker/Framber. I would see a world where Parades/Suzuki/Walker/w. Abreu become Stros. If this happens then The Stros even though they lost Tucker/Framber will be a better team in 2025 than in 2026. I think that's why Dana's looking for another P in FA. This new P wont be a Framber/Fried/Burns type guy. But will be a Manea type P. I also expect JV to be brought back on a 1 year $10 million dollar deal.
The team probably would've been better off last year if this trade had been made last year. Probably could've gotten even more for Tucker last year.
I said that last year but now I’m not so sure. This has been such a crazy free agent market that trade chips value have risen along with it. They may get almost as much (if not more) for Tucker now than they would have last offseason.
I don’t think Framber will be traded. The pitching market is not as shallow as the position player market and I think other teams see the risk with Valdez. Only thing I could see is if Baltimore (who has a GM very familiar with Framber) just decides they’ll pay the ask to get another cheap ace.
Soto deal pushed this over the edge. Not sure we’d have gotten as much last year. Value is way up now.
Granted. My point is only about the opinions that fans have about the value of said players. If the money ( AAV) is similar, then I don't understand how Bregman in his ages 31-36/7 seasons could be a terrible mistake while Altuve in his age 35-39 seasons be fine. I don't begrudge anyone getting what they can but my point was about the poster's here opinion of the wisdom of the offer; saying that signing Alex through his age 36 or 37 seasons would be a mistake but are fine signing Altuve through age 39 for similar money.
The Orioles are a PERFECT fit for Framber, and they are flush with talent. They are perfect trade partners for us, the problem is they have shown a heavy reluctance to make any trades (I think they missed out on a big opportunity by being so complacent at last year's deadline). They are a fun organization to follow, and led by a Luhnow disciple.
They made a big move getting Burnes last year and it mostly worked out. what’s funny is the Astros offseason could amount to getting two AL rivals to essentially repeat trades they each made last offseason (Yankees replicating the Soto trade by getting Tucker and Orioles replicating the Burnes trade by getting Framber).
I'm pretty sure the Astros will trade Tucker. I'm also pretty sure the return we get on him will be crap and Dana will screw the pooch.
