We really need a shooter. Feels like we're just going to trade expiring contracts for a bench shooter but that's better than nothing. Make it a rotation battle.

I can't fathom a team chasing the top 6 in the west, near bottom in shooting and loaded with assets not doing anything to improve the shooting.

I would support that more than what I have seen a lot of people have been suggesting, which is Zach LaVine. I'm weary of acquiring him to be honest. I'm not even sure he's that much better of a player than our current 2 guard. Here is a comparison of the basketball reference advanced metrics:

    LaVine
    WS/48: .073
    BPM: 0.0
    VORP: 0.4

    Green
    WS/48: 0.87
    BPM: 0.0
    VORP: 0.4

Pretty identical. I understand some people look and see that 43% 3PT % which, I get, is really enticing. But efficiency isn't everything. LaVine is clearly past his prime (when he was 25-27 years old), oft injured, and has never been a plus defender. Also, his contract is a lot worse than Green's. I would not give up assets to obtain him personally.

I wonder what it would take to get Monk from Sacramento? They have too many guards and wings. Problem is, what they could really use is a defensive anchor, probably at the 5 so Sabonis can play PF part of the time, but we don't have one to offer.

I wonder if a three-team trade like this might make sense? Is Monk worth a late first rounder on that contract?

20025 pick swap with Suns is way too valuable to trade right now

Bulls would have to GIVE some FRPs to take on that deal... if they did 2 FRPS... I would do it because you could attach one next year to get rid of him

The only problem is that just letting every one of our players expire at the end of the season and replacing them with minimum vets, we are going to be against (or into) the luxury tax. So if they trade for a Time Lord and/or a shooter whose contract goes into next season, they are going to have to do a correlating salary dump this offseason or at some point next season.

But who do you dump? We’re talking about players under contract next season. And salary dumps usually cost picks, they don’t net them.

A FVV renegotiation could alleviate the issue, but it’s not guaranteed.

Personally I like Paul Reed & Keon Ellis (both expiring)... help us this year but who could be resigned cheapish (fingers crossed).

Like you said, re-signing FVV (or S&T him) could help lower tax bill next year.

FVV for Ben Simmons and a top 12 protected pick. Give the keys to Green, let him get wide open looks for Holiday and Sheppard. It could backfire, but we are not a contender with FVV at $45M this season.
