I don't get the philosophy of not giving guys longterm deals, but then trading for them after they get a deal. For example, didn't want to go 3 years on Graveman, but then traded for him. Verlander. Possibly Correa. I get they might get money back, but it's still an older player. Shrug...
I want to see a three team trade, Astros, Cubs, Twins. Astros get - Correa, Bellinger Cubs get - Tucker, 1 prospect from Astros Twins get - 2 prospects from Cubs, 1 prospect from Astros, Jeremy Pena Or something like that
https://nypost.com/2024/12/11/sports/yankees-in-hot-pursuit-of-kyle-tucker-trade-so-are-these-teams/ More and more, it is appearing as if the Astros are open to trading Kyle Tucker and the Yankees are among the teams most seriously pursuing the star outfielder, The Post has learned. The Yankees, though, might not be the most determined pursuer of Tucker as the Winter Meetings neared an end. The Cubs are seen as a strong player for the lefty-swinger and the Giants are also involved in talks with the Astros. The Phillies also had been among the teams that at least inquired and tried to find a package that would work with the Astros. The Astros are prioritizing major league-ready corner infielders and starting pitching if they move Tucker. In first baseman Matt Shaw (the Cubs’ top prospect, according to MLB.com), third baseman Cam Smith and 2024 All-Star Isaac Paredes, Chicago has pieces that are attractive to Houston, which is bracing to lose third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency. What makes the Yankees fascinating is that an agreement with Max Fried gives them seven potential starters for next season. The thought is that would motivate them to trade Marcus Stroman to get out of as much of his $18 million owed next year as possible and/or Nestor Cortes, who will be entering his walk year. And that might happen. But because the top of the Yankee farm system is in a down cycle, they would have to get creative to acquire someone as talented as Tucker and Houston is said to be very interested in AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil. It is possible that Gil and Ben Rice could front a package that at least gets the Yankees to the table.
Cubs, Yankees, Giants, and Phillies all mentioned in this article about having reached out about Tucker. Astros said to be interested in Luis Gil from NYY and some of the Cubs prospects (including Shaw). Astros seeking “major league ready pitching and corner IF prospects”
If Dana does any deal with the Yankees for Tucker… he needs to squeeze every ounce of juice out of their asses as he can. Yankees fans are in shambles after losing out on Soto and are raising hell. I’d prefer for us him not to trade Tucker there but if he does there needs to be a significant “Yankee tax” on any deal. Dana has all the leverage in those negotiations, specifically with them
Their GM was on the MLB network yesterday. I didn't get any vibe that they had any interest in trading Correa (but who knows).
Nah, that's too much...Tucker, Pena (cheap, under control) and 2 prospects for Correa and Bellinger would be getting fleeced.
Damn straight, especially after Cashman's bs comments about 2017 that he made before the WS. Their GM having a big mouth needs to cost them dearly.
I'm certainly not opposed to trading Tucker, but if you do that you better have a plan for some offense. Particularly if you don't plan on paying Bregman. I guess if you trade Tucker for pitching, then trade Framber for hitting it could set you up better for multiple seasons. However the 2025 Astros are likely quite a bit worse unless a hitting prospect breaks out in a huge way. At this point the only likely path to success beyond next season is trusting Brown's player evaluations. If Crane doesn't wanna play the mega contract game they may just have to roll the prospect dice, however much we may not like it. Losing Framber, Tucker and Bregman for nothing and the MLB product is DOA in 2026. Compromise next season for the next few seasons, or fully try to win next season and accept the seasons beyond look possibly rough. Hard to say with confidence which is the right path. You could trade for prospects and they fail, or we could go hard next season and still not be good enough and the run goes out with a whimper. No choice of direction is a guarantee of success.
Gil, Rice, and Lombard would be a good return for Tucker. Houston gets a MoR SP, a controllable solid everyday 1B, and a top prospect. Adding Gil would allow them to use one of their SP to try to acquire another big bat (OF or 3B). And of course trading Tucker frees up another ~$15M.
And I’m ok with that as long as I see direction. The only reason to make these trades is the sole purpose of “extending the window” while also remaining contenders. Really praying Dana knocks this out the park and doesn’t screw the pooch
