If that was the reasoning, ABSOLUTELY But if teams are offering 3+ building block players w/ All Star ceilings and high floors, then you simply must consider it. Then resigning Bregman fills one of the position/lineup holes. I still think Framber would be easier to replace, but it's really hard to argue if GMs start bidding offers like a storage wars auction.
I'm not familiar with a lot of these guys, but I don't like either of these deals. I'm hoping for a deal with Baltimore. Kjeestad, Mayo, a lower level good pitching prospect for Tucker.
Kjerstad/Mayo is a more straightforward star-for-elite-prospects trade. Those other 2 include MLB players and post-hype prospects who have very undefined value. Bellinger is a former MVP. Cabrera was a former top prospect and Grisham was an everyday CF for the Padres for several years, who matches up pretty well with Meyers or McCormick if they want a platoon. I would probably prefer the Orioles deal too but all that is so speculative who knows what’s even close to realistic.
The Astros need to get everyday players and/or star prospects in a Tucker trade. A bunch of mid prospects is really pennies on the dollar for a guy of Tuck's value. And I'd be fine with Bellinger if his attitude is fixed in a Pressly trade, but his contract has negative value in a trade scenario. Not really value for a young All-Star player.
Here me out... Anthony Rendon. Pressly for Rendon with Angels throwing in another $25 million to offset some of the salary. Yes, I am a Rice homer.
There was never a guy who quit playing baseball faster the moment he got a big contract. Worst contract ever signed?
rendon has averaged ~50 games played per year over the last 5 years. of course he had a career year in 2019 and played against us in the WS
A “have to get creative” offseason: Out: Tucker, Blubaugh, Whitcomb, Framber, Pena, Caratini, Pressly, Meyers In: Correa, Bellinger, Shaw, Bregman, Verlander, Mayo, Herstad, $25M total in 2025 from Cubs/Twins Roster: 2B Altuve CF/1B Bellinger DH Alvarez SS Correa 3B Bregman C Diaz 1B/CF Singleton/McCormick RF Herstad LF Mayo Bench: Dubon, Salazar, Kessinger Rotation: Brown, Blanco, Garcia, Arrighetti, Verlander, McCullers Bullpen: Hader, Abreu, Ort, King, Scott, Whitley, Dubin
I am actually being serious... I think a change of scenery back home would help... he's not toxic... just laid back from what I heard. Career splits in Enron Field/Minute Maid Park/Daiken Park: .371 AVG .410 OBP .600 SLG 1.010 OPS ...in of course, limited playing time.
You can still hate something and be good at it. If he hates baseball so much, why would he want to share that misery to the next generation by naming a dugout after himself at Rice?
Imagine a world where Tucker was traded for Hoerner/Shaw plus prospects and Dana traded for Correa. Then Dana traded for Robert for prospects.
Ideal packages for Tucker: Yankees: Luis Gil, George Lombard Jr., Ben Rice Cubs: Cody Bellinger, Matt Shaw, Isaac Paredes, $ Phillies: Alec Bohm, Aiden Miller, Justin Crawford, PTBNL Giants: Mike Yaz, Lamont Wade, Bryce Eldridge, Dakota Jordan, $
