Do I think trading for Butler increases our chances of winning the title over the next couple of seasons? Yes.

Will our chances be good? No. Not at all. The chances would be very, very small, but higher than 0%.

Does trading for Butler increase our chances of making a deep playoff run? Yes.

Would a deep playoff run over the next couple of seasons be valuable for our young players? Yes.

So, yes, I would give up something for Butler. Just not a lot.

I'm not the least bit advocating for this, but FVV and Green for Butler and Robinson works, even with Jalen's poison pill.

Green, Brooks, Adams and Tate works for Butler and Robinson as well.

You'd give up Green in a trade for 25yr old Butler??

Right now, Vegas has us as the 16th most likely team to win the title this season, even at 16-8. Not pre-season expectations, I mean at the current moment. Bottom half of the league. We have "5 teams better than us had a tragic team plane crash" level championship equity. Imaginary.

Any real asset traded for Jimmy Butler to win us a couple extra playoff games this year, and any dollar spent on a Jimmy Butler contract in future years, subtracts from actual championship equity when we'll have it and works counter to the championship goals of the organization.

We are in the business of trying to win a championship(s) between 2026-27 and the early 2030s. That's our window. Trading an asset for Jimmy Butler now makes those championships less likely.

This is really my logic as well.... Not only to make the playoffs, but actually win a series (or two) this year.

Became a destination (kind of there already) for free agents & players who want out (Booker? Edwards?) of their current situation into next year.

You have to be interested. This team needs a #1 option. What other all stars will be available?

The Rockets will not and cannot win a championship with this roster. They are good enough to make the playoffs maybe even 4th seed like I predicted before the season but a championship?

They have to atleast entertain adding Butler who has taken a team to the Finals twice and is a great playoff performer and clutch

Only if Jimmy Butler makes the Rockets a championship contender this season does it make sense to entertain a trade. Obviously, Jalen would be the basis of the trade.

JB is a plus defender, his mentality fits Udoka's and the Rockets defense would go to another level. Just think of him together with DB, Tari and Amen. He is also the closer the Rockets sorely need.

Would this put the Rockets within striking distance of making the Finals? If yes, Rockets should see if a deal can be made. If not, forget it.

This is what you'd be potentially bringing to your locker room and overall team moral.

Yes, he'd be on a new team and most likely, these "trade consideration" topics wouldn't arise as often but this guy really is a diva and to boot a diva on the decline.

Hard pass with that contract in tow.

    I think he's 35... :p

...and I said I wasn't advocating for it, just that it was possible. However, if I were ready to move on from any of the young core, Green would be near the top of the list. I've already stated my piece on Jalen in the numero thread and elsewhere so I won't drag it in here.

He plays his ass off and expects others to do the same. That's been problematic in other stops in his career, but it wouldn't be on an Udoka team.

The Heat are clever enough to get rid of Butler when Butler's health was in question and he was not playing that much........

Trading for a 35 year old (how time flies) is never easy and the limitation of his window is what makes it extra tough.

Also Erik Spoelstra went on record to say that he wants Butler to stay the year.....not breaking up the team.....not sure how much say he still has within the organization...

Al P, Jalen, and Amen are 22 years old. Jabari is 21. Reed and Cam are 20. We need to figure out how to compete for the next decade, not bridging the gap for the next couple of seasons. Jimmy might make us look better on paper today, but is a huge injury and decline risk. I'd rather save our war chest for someone who becomes available in the future that fits our timeline. It's not Jimmy or nothing.

i like jimmy as a player, but just realistically with how our roster is constructed, it doesn't make sense to bring him here, nor dallas.

the only place that makes sense on the list of the teams hes interested in, is golden state.

he probably likes houston because he can come home, im sure thats most players dream is to play in their hometown they likely grew up a fan of.
