No. I don't see a positive giving up Cam and Fred for Fox. We don't know how good Cam can be yet, and Fred has a much better ASST/TO rate than Fox and anyone on our team. Fox has 145 assists and 85 turnovers. Fred has 129 assists and only 27 turnovers That's important. Don't you think turnovers matter for your primary ball distributor? I just don't see Fox as a huge difference maker at point guard to trade for both Cam and Fred. I'd much rather replace Jalen at the end of the season if he can't consistently improve his shooting, and bundle him with someone else or draft picks for a SG who is less turnover prone, a smarter player, and an upgrade on shooting proficiency consistently. I hate the thought of giving up on Cam so soon.
Fox is almost a lateral move with Jalen. He is not the answer. We would still have the same lane clogging defense being played against us. Fvv is a better all-around player than Fox. We need a SG that can shoot and drive. Cam might be that guy in several years, but he is obviously not there yet.
Both of you are clueless. Fox would open up the floor and the Rockets offense would go to another level. Fox would blow by defenders that push FVV around when they pressure the ball (because he can't get around them). Fox has more TOs because he is an efficient full-time playmaker that is always the #1 focus of the opposing defense. He is also one of the best closers in the NBA and would allow the Rockets actually generate legit good shots in crunch time. You two need to watch Fox play a few games instead of just looking at stats. Saying "Fox is almost a lateral move with Jalen" is one of the most stupid things ever posted in the GARM. Not only is he a better player in every way, he's lost more brain cells than Jalen's ever had. The chasm between their b-ball IQ is massive.
The point is that Fox is a poor 3 pt shooter and always has been. He is also a below average defensive player. He does finish better than Jalen. In the context of the Rockets, he is a poor fit. Defenses would still pack the paint and our offense would still be stagnant. If you watched the games this year, FVV is getting to the rim on a consistent basis, but is dominating the ball which is counter productive. We need 3 point shooters to surround Amen and Sengun in order to open up the floor. Fox does not do that.
Yes, the Rockets need 3-point shooting, but they also need a legit star, floor leader and perimeter threat who can take over games even more. 3-point shooters can be found; guys like De'Aaron Fox are much more difficult to find. If the Rockets don't secure a dominant offensive threat who is also very smart and has his head screwed on, they will never contend. Better 3-point shooting will allow the Rockets to win a few more games but it's just a band aid on huge wound. Adding Fox fills their biggest need and they can sign a shooter or two in free agency. If you honestly believe the offense would remain stagnant with Fox, I am talking to air. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some of us here just don't watch enough non-Rockets basketball.
You do understand the difference between fvv getting to rim vs fox right? Fvv literally has no bag is one of the worst finishing guards in the league. Fox is absolutely elite at finishing in the paint. Saying Jalen and anyone is a lateral move is borderline criminal. Literally any single player in the league is an upgrade over Jalen. Fox is such a massive upgrade that I am shocked you don't see it.
Fox is an upgrade to Jalen, but in the context of our team he is not what we need. Amen can also get to the rim and finish and is a better passer and defensive player. FVV is a better defender and passer than Fox, but Fox might be a marginally better player than FVV. You guys are massively overrating fox and his 37M contract for what would be a very marginal improvement at the SG position. It is much better to save our powder for more of a difference maker. Fox can get to the rim, because he has a center that shoots 40% from 3 and is not afraid to take them. I would gladly do a one to one swap for Jalen, but I'm not adding a bunch of assets for such a slight improvement. That is a pre-mature move for this one year and not looking toward the future when we have the opportunity to field a contender. The Rockets are saving their flexibility for a star. Fox is not a star.
While it is true that Fox is not a first tier franchise player, he is what we hoped Jalen would become. In other words, Fox is Jalen's ceiling which, based on Jalen's trajectory, he has only a slim chance of reaching. If the Kings would trade Fox for Jalen straight up, you do it in half a heart beat.
Yes straght up. I agree. We will still be b****ing about our offense, though. Fox does not spread the floor, neither does Amen for that matter, but it doesn't cost anything to switch Amen out with Jalen and you get a better player starting than Fox. Fox also costs 37m, so it is a fair trade for Jalen. Will Sacremento bite on that?
Jalen is making only 4M less than Fox next year, and he has two more years longer than Fox. The contract issue is only true for this year. And then Jalen's will be much worse than Fox's. I mean, if Jalen could play like Fox, would you still replace him with Amen in the starting lineup? Nobody would. I'd replace Brooks with Amen instead.
https://www.si.com/nba/rockets/news...ore-could-require-a-new-home-nba-trade-rumors Looks like someone's agent is trying to put some pressure on the Rockets.
That’s how I feel. I would swap Reed and Cam even though it’s an unpopular take. Reed already is a “system guy” who can space the floor, plays good defense (given his size limitations), passes, and generally makes the right play. What he lacks is confidence and consistency. G League would provide him the opportunity to put up shot after shot against NBA talent. Reps. A chance to be “the guy”. That way when he gets called up, he’ll do so with more confidence in those looks he gets in limited minutes. Cam on the other hand does not need reps or confidence. He doesn’t need to be “the man”. He needs to learn how to be a role player with the other Rockets starters. Play him and if he’s hot, let him cook and if he’s playing hero ball, plant his behind on the bench until he gets it. I think they both would benefit more from the other’s situation.
lol. The big concern I had with Cam: is he mature enough to listen, work hard and get better? If he can do that he’s a priority prospect. But I don’t think the G-league has helped him; he needs minutes. I don’t see him in practice but who knows if his attitude is straight. If it’s not gonna work here, we need at least a lotto pick in compensation. Cam is a 20 pt scorer in this league, just needs to keep his head down and work hard for his opportunity. Really can’t stand the impatient, self-entitled young guy syndrome. Hope Cam hasn’t caught that disease. It won’t help his career.
