[Poll] What it is CF pulse on team direction/superstar?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by MystikArkitect, Dec 6, 2024.

?

Is the team direction good and do we have a foundational star?

  1. We do not, it's a star by committee and we don't need to trade for one.

If his shooting percentages are still below average and he's still getting almost as many turnovers as assists by March I hope we cut our losses and trade him. It's the never ending experiment that is going nowhere when it comes to him learning how to shoot more proficiently. By March he will have had 3 1/2 years of 32 or more minutes a game hasn't given him plenty of opportunities to shoot and work on ball handling. Otherwise, we will have to endure a bunch more crappy games from him going up and down and up and down on a 100 million dollar contract. Meanwhile we wait and wait and wait to see if he finally becomes an above average % shooter and ball handler. That, or we will be overpaying for him as a bench player.

It is a democratic discussion, lol, we have to chill about those stuff.

Nowadays people can have 2 superstars Steph and Durant if Alpe can consistently cement his status over the years.....

We need to surround legit All Stars around Alpe.

The franchise had a Top 5 Player of All Time type of Center who was also the pioneer of anything related to big men and anyone below can be discussed.

Giannis was a non-shooter, but still scored a lot of points at a relatively high percentage for a non shooter. I do think Amen could get to a 20-24pt/game scorer as a Giannis/Russ Westbrook type of rim finisher bully on better overall efficiency because he is far smarter at shot selection than a guy like Russ BUT that would assume his usage goes up significantly and that means the team is trying to give him opportunities to score.

At the moment he plays 26 mpg and the offense rarely runs through him. The fact he gets 11-14pts today without having any plays really run for him is interesting. I see that he is assisted on 55% of his shots with puts him on the 89th percentile of such players. I guess the question remains if he is able to consistently score by his own offense creation in a half court set. The way he shoots over and around guys near the paint leads me to believe he should be able to but we still don't have a lot of data of him creating those opportunities unassisted as the guy we are trying to give the ball to in order to score.

People get all bootie hurt about my Sengun comparisons when they fall short of Jokic but I don't necessarily see Alpi as a #1 guys. I saw him initially topping out as a better version of Sabonis but now I see him more as a Pau Gasol type of high bball IQ, skill player, and facilitator on a really good team. Pau was one of those guys who was successful leading a playoff team, but not being a serious contender....however he found great success as a #2 or #3 guy in LA. I agree to surrounding him with All Stars - but there has to be someone who is an elite wing/guard scorer in there because it's harder for non shooting bigs to impact wins in close games if they don't have the threat of being able to shoot 3s.

I selected that we do not have a superstar, but the reality is that NBA teams that are successful tend to have a superstar and 1-2 more borderline superstars, and I think that we have the latter: either Sengun or Thompson has a very solid chance to ascend into the Jaylen Brown / Kyrie Irving / Paul George tier of guys who can be the best player on an OK team or the second best player on a great team, I just don't see either as the best player on a great team.

The best player on great teams tend to be limited to the top ~10 players in the league, and those guys aren't easy to trade for. But given the opportunity, I would give up most of our talent that isn't Sengun and Thompson for it.

We shouldn't have to give up Sengun, Amen, or Jabari in a trade. We have incredible draft assets that can be used. This off-season I think we make a signficant trade, unless Jalen gets consistent.
