When Mina Kimes called the Offensive line "non-functional" and not dysfunctional, we knew it was bad but not all the outsiders knew. This offensive line has been responsible for negating at least 4 passing Tds. It also led to Stroud being shell shocked, which in return took away a couple of TDs from Dell. Suddenly, some fans have resorted to talking crazy about Seven and neglect that horrendous o-line play can halt the entire operation including limiting Bobby on what he can call. With just below average line production this team would be stacking up the Ws. They should try one of the PS guys for Mason. It's only gotten worse for him. Can't recognize SB champion Mason.
Poor Burrow...all he does it throw for 300 yards an multiple TD every week and they still manage to lose.
Glaring problem there.....CJ is put on his ass too much to be elite. This O-Line is messing him up so bad and I hope the damage isn't long term.
Given the receivers he has to work with in Carolina, you have to admit Young's performance has both been impressive. If Stroud was doing the same thing with Carolina's receiving corps people here would be absolutely doing cartwheels. Really what that stat shows is that Stroud isn't good enough to overcome oline issues. Last year the line overplayed their talent and gave Stroud time. This year they've gone back to being a potato.
I got no ill will. Seems like a good kid. To his credit, he has been playing better and 3 coulda shoulda wouldas the last 3 weeks. (All 3 games in position to win. Legette couldn’t hang on yesterday.) But I’m still taking CJ.
Oh, I know this is a Stroud thread but I wasn't comparing the two. Rather, I was talking about limitations of Stroud and how much he's affected by his environment in a way not dissimilar to Bryce Young. I mean, Young plays for a non-playoff team in a different conference and picked ahead of Stroud, so the comparison never mattered except for people who want to laugh at the Panthers. To me, this is another stat showing that Stroud isn't actually the superman he looked like last year, where he seemed to have made everyone around him better, where he played up a bad line and made a former 4th round pick and a 3rd round rookie look like stars. Right now, he's just a lot more mortal, tier-2 type QB. Which is fine. Still great outcome for a #2 pick. Just that fans may need to lower expectations.
It looks like stroud is more jared Goff and not Joe burrow a lot of people were making him out to be. I see a lot of people making excuses for him. It’s slowicks fault or the offensive lines fault, but a truly elite qb can overcome a bad o-line.
Elite QBs can maybe mask a bad OL. Totally overcome? Obviously not all sacks are created equal (QB/OL/coverage) Times sacked 56: Caleb Williams 41: Stroud 40: Geno/Darnold 39: Levis 35: Mahomes/Herbert/Hurts 33: Deshaun 32: Burrow/Baker https://www.profootballnetwork.com/best-offensive-lines-nfl-rankings/ 26. Texans: Quarterback C.J. Stroud has been sacked 41 times, the second-most in the NFL, while the Texans’ front five ranks 27th in pass-block and 28th in run-block win rate. (If anyone has PFF: https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-week-14-2024 — never mind, apparently 27th. — https://sports.yahoo.com/32-nfl-offensive-lines-ranked-090043702.html) https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41040723/2024-nfl-win-rates-top-teams-players-rankings#teams Pass block win rate: 55% (26th) Run block win rate: 68% (30th)
This is a very good analysis. And I’m slowly leaning towards this analysis as well but I hope CJ becomes better than Burrow in time.
