OK I'm taking my wife to Cozumel next week and neither of us have a passport. I still have time to get a passport but I'd rather save the near $300 for the 2 rush passports and have that money to spend in Mexico. I've been told an offical birth certificate and valid ID would work. Anyone have any experience with this?

Also anyone have reccomendations on stuff not to be missed in Cozumel?

Stuff not to forget to take?

You may also use your voters registration card instead of your birth certificate along with your Drivers I.D. with pic of course.

Last time I was there, they started fixing alot of places up for the tourist. Lookout for the little markets that arent cheap. Those are looking for tourist to screw over. One guy tried to sell my wife a beach hat (straw, I think) for $20 dollars! I went over and talked him down to $5. I just sat on the beach and drank mix drinks while I was there.

Just need a BC and a DL.

Mexico will accept a voter's registration but US customs will hassle you about it when you return. The requirement is a birth certificate with an raised seal on it (embossed) and a driver's license. What do you want to do? I have been to Cozumel about 10 times. Ask away and I will try to help.

When you get to the airport, its like running the gauntlet.

    Don't trust anyone!!!

People will come up to you and lie, saying they are with your hotel. Its a big time share scam. Just put your head down and get to your cab.

I went to Cozumel but it was with my mom who was so damn afraid just to get off the boat I really didn't have that good of a time. But there are a lot of nice looking places to stay. I really just got to see the touristy type area of the island, but it was nice enough. The cab drivers down there are crazy! The water is REALLY clear.

OK looks like I'm going to skip the Passport.

I'm really looking forward to the trip. I'd like to dive but my wife has asthma and can't. I'm going this weekend to buy some snorkeling equipement so I don't have to use rental gear from the hotel.

I plan on doing some hard core drinking at the swim up bar.

One day I plan on renting a car/jeep and exploring the island. Anything must see?

I'd like to have a great lobster dinner while there. I heard there is a place where all they fix is lobster so I plan on finding that place.

This will be our 5th anniversary and we haven't had a vacation since our honeymoon, too busy having kids and working, so I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing stress free vacation.

Go ahead and dive at least once. It is criminal to get that close to the reef and not dive. My favorite dive is Santa Rosa. Ask for it. The bar thing is no problem. Take your wife and your snorkeling stuff to the South part of the island. There is a park there named Chankanaub. Good snorkeling in protected water. Go to the ocean side of the island one day. It is pretty easy to find a deserted piece of beach. There is also a few resturants and bars on that side of the island. The lobster place is on the North end of the island. I have never been there but I have seen it. Have a great trip! I wish I was going.

As others have already told you, the BC and DL will be fine for Mexico.
