The program likes Tate. They aren't eager to move him. He brings a lot of intangibles that make the team more of a family and shows franchise loyalty. The question is are we one injury away from needing him in the playoffs? Can we build up a significant enough cushion going into the playoffs that we can use him to give other players rest? We are one Brooks injury away from needing him. I feel like Whitmore is our Jalen Green insurance for a potential injury, but trading Tate for a proven SG to give Green a player to manage his workload would be nice. I would like Alec Burks if available or Ingles in a low value high upside potential.
You have to look at mistakes that teams like the Suns made going into the playoffs. They were so cheap trying to find a SG to help manage Booker's workload going into the playoffs that they missed the opportunity to have Booker ready for a heavy workload to lead the playoff minutes. There will be a lot of things to consider if the Rockets continue to play at this level after the Allstar break.
Tate's value is as salary filler in a blockbuster trade. I don't think anyone is giving you picks for him at this point. He might be able to serve as one of those change-of-scenery swaps for a player like Bones Hyland.
I hope when he gets cut from his next team we can pick him back up on a minimum not for fit but because he is part of the team. That would put a little bit more money in his pockets, too. He has always shown himself to have great character.
It really depends on if we trade Dillon or not. Dillon is more attractive to competing teams than Tate. Tate and Uncle Jeff would become valuable depth for us if Dillon is traded for a SG. If not, he is worth a 2nc round pick or as salary filler in another trade.
The way Dillon has played this year, I can’t see trading him unless it’s part of a package for a real star. I feel like Dillon is one of our five best players and one of our best shooters. I’m with you on upgrading the SG position, but the Jalen extension basically locked us into a full season (and maybe more). I figure we’ll have to upgrade in the offseason. I’m pretty much willing to trade any combo of players not named Sengun, Tari and Amen for a legit #1 or #2, especially at SG.
Why let Dallas steal him for 2 2nds we don't need so he can work us over for an in-division rival? That was an easy no and absolutely the correct call.
We pretty much agree. I do think Dillon is regressing back to his norm, but there is no hurry to trade him. I don't think we make a significant trade until the off-season. Maybe we can make a minor trade for Brogdon or similar for a draft pick and filler.
This sounds like if I can't have him no one can. You do Tate a solid like you did with Eric Gordon and let him play on a contender. Tate earned it. It really wouldn't have impacted the division in anything. In fact, Dallas only goes for Gafford and not PJ Washington had they acquired Tate first.
Well. That's a misread on your part, not what I'm asking at all, which you also did not address, on the assumption that Tate turned into a miserable old b**** like Eric Gordon, for which you did not reference some sort of feelings, demand for playing time or trade, etc. So like... help me out here. I'll ask again, why help Dallas for little in return? Hypotheticals on hypotheticals isn't something I plan to waste time pondering.
I think Tate has probably asked them for a trade, so they are trying to accomdate him. We are one injury away from him and Jeff Green getting rotation minutes. They are valuable depth to the Rockets. I don't think we are really that interested in 2nd round picks.

Brooks was handpicked by Ime. He's not going anywhere. I can't believe you fools have forgotten that 2nd half Jalen is someone you want going into the playoffs.
The 2023 CBA has messed up how teams can add players. I just don't think there are many competing teams that have tradeable salary that is more than Brooks's, the other team is willing to trade, and that the Rockets are willing to accept. I think Tate will be easier to move if the Rockets want to move him.
Value proven. Someone is hurt, a reliable option steps in. Tate is a leader with this group, always has been.
Turned that was the correct move. Tate should remain a Rocket he always shows up as needed depth and he doesnt complain about having zero playtime. That 2nd rounder or whatever garbage asset we get for him wont be a needle mover. Having a locker guy to help team chemistry and also provide depth in case of injuries is vital to any team. Nobody wants to think of insurance, nobody wants to think of chemistry nobody wants to think of injuries. Thats how you end up like the Sixers, team looks killer in NBA2K but is garbage IRL. Rockets have 3 guys who are athletic beasts and they play very physical that means there is always risk of injuries. Tate is a guy who knows the system and can come in hot after not playing a minute for months. You cant beat that as the 9th+ guy on the squad.
