Starters have a net rating of +9.7 (269 minutes) FVV Amen Dillon Jabari Sengun are at +32.8 (53 minutes) FVV Jalen Dillon Tari Sengun are at +39.5 (only 14 minutes played, mostly meaningless) We really don't have many lineups that have played a significant amount of minutes together. Only 3 lineups that have played more than 25 minutes.
Well, this lineup here should have over 100 possessions. Because it is our best lineup. In 2-3 years, replace Fred with Reed, and we will rule the league.
Tari is and always will be a 3. He can't guard 4s. I don't think he can guard 1s either. He isn't Amen who can guard 1-4. He also is just an inferior offensive player compared to Jabari. Way easier to defend, low release point, worse shooter, worse at the rim. Great at being a rabid raccoon off the bench but he needs to really develop offensively if he's going to start. Dillon is way better than him offensively and at defending true 4s and skinny 5s. I don't think Tari will ever defend guys like Victor or Chet for example. Jabari will once he gains more muscle mass. Tari has actually been pretty bad the past couple of games but it's probably just exhaustion from the NBA making is play an insane number of games in a short amount of time. Not that any of this matters because they're both going to be here for a long time.
Sam also said that Amen is probably the only player he can think of that could rival Wemby for best defender in the NBA moving forward.
Tari generally plays with Thompson along with 2 of FVV, Reed, and Green and 1 of Sengun, Landale, and Adams. Amen typically plays the better perimeter playmaker..such that he's either the 3 or the 2. If Tari is the 3, that would make Amen the 2 and Reed or Green the 4.
I don't believe this at all. I think he'd be good at guarding like 70% of PF's and that's going to increase as he adds muscle. Tari is so versatile, he can fit into any role. His rebounding and help defense have earned him minutes at the 4.
Tari can play either forward spot. So can Amen. So can Jabari, although he would struggle against quicker wings more than Tari or Amen. Dillon can only play SF and also struggles against quicker wings, but excels on big guys that want to play on the perimenter. It's why I don't understand when fans want to use our draft capital to bring in more forwards. It only makes since if we jettison Brooks. At some point, Amen will play guard on offense and then we might need another Forward for depth if Dillon is gone. I doubt any of that occurs until the off-season unless Jalen stinks so bad that Ime is forced to move him into a bench role or FVV gets hurt. We still have Tate and Uncle Jeff as well who are very capable of providing 10 quality minutes off the bench if necessary. We only lack depth at SG/Combo guard. If we tweek the roster at all, it should be at that position and unless it's a blockbuster trade it should be for a rental.
Yeah I love the fact that he is starting to try stuff like that. It honestly didn't look bad. Went fluidly up with the shot. The snatch back was violent
Question from observation: With Amen it's just a question of his relatively shaky handle. You'll notice how his weakest move where he gets stripped a lot is one crossovers when he drives down the middle of the floor. When his arm is extended and low to the ground, guards step in and take the ball away from him pretty often. And he seems aware of this weakness, because he'll often start to make a move to his right and he doesn't have the step the angle, and so instead of crossing over he'll pull out and often finds JVV to restart the offensive set. This is because he doesn't have the crossover that's deceptive and controlled enough that he can consistently use it as a weapon. I note that it's a relatively shaky handle, because if he were 6'2" I think he'd get away with that move. At 6'7" with long arms, you have to have a handle like TMac or Kobe to consistently penetrate with deception to compliment the speed and athleticism. Thsi brings up a question; I didn't watch TMac, other than highlights, until he got to Houston. Did he have an advanced handle in his second year in the league? Granted, both were younger by age 23 were stars, but it's fair to consider that Amen didn't have to have an amazing handle against high school kids. I don't think it's weird that he might not have developed it to PG level by this age since he'd never been regularly stripped. I don't know dribbling development very well. Do any of you? My friend pointed out that Beal came into the league with a garbage handle and developed to be very dependable, and Ben Taylor noted that Donovan Mitchell's handle tightened up very considerably since he got into the league.
Are we talking about offense or defense? Both games have been poor offensively. Defensively, he hasn't changed many shots or gotten a single block or steal. He's always solid, but didn't seem like his elite self the last 2 games, on either end.
