What is tricky about S&Ts? Usually, the team caves before FA and trades the player as there is too much downside to a team losing a star for nothing. Edit: S&Ts are difficult for teams above the 1st apron, but that just means a team has to be hardcapped for one season.
Edit2: Sorry, I just saw this. The Jalen thing only applies to teams above the 1st apron. I don't think this will be an issue with Fox. This apron thing just has not been a big issue for the Rockets so I don't typically think about them related to the Rockets.
I feel you on that. It's just a random trade idea. Actually, I would like for us to get Brandon Ingram if it only costs us Jalen Green, Cam Whitmore, non-rotational players, and draft picks
First, you can't go over the apron after the sign-and-trade, and it hard caps the receiving team. But beyond that, Fox could only sign a four year sign-and-trade deal, whereas he can sign a 5 year deal without the S&T. This is why players generally take the 5 year deal, then ask for a trade a year later. That is why I think whoever has him next offseason is in the drivers' seat.
Let's go get Marcus Smart. What do yall think it would take? Add another top shelf defender at the point.
If it is all possible to get fox, that’s what we do give em cam or Reed , green , bari and picks not entirely sure how the poison pill works, and if we could even trade green like this or not though
Right now don’t trade anybody that’s in the rotation. The chemistry is there and you don’t want to mess that up. The best teams are slow cooked, not microwaved. But we can make some additions using some of the guys that are not playing. It’s probably best to wait though because we #2 in the west.
I think Fox and Booker are the targets if Green doesn’t improve. I’m happy with Green other than efficiency on offense and occasionally shot selection. But either of those guys would be an upgrade. I also want to keep VanVleet for 2-3 more years after this. Trade Green+Whitmore and picks for either.
Basically this. I don't understand the our young guys are good so we have to jettison any veteran talent in the sake of development mantra. The Rockets want to add to Sengun, Tari, Amen, Brooks, FVV, and Jabari without taking away. Between Green, Cam, expiring contracts, and 5 net FRPs, the Rockets should be able to get almost any player that asks out. I don't want the Rockets essentially to trade places with a team with a star or 2, cap problems, no picks, and no way to improve. I'd want the Rockets to trade picks, but keep those 6 players. Maybe 1 of Jabari and Tari could be traded, but I'd offer less picks if a team has to have one of them.
I don’t think so, if you think he gives you a swing at the championship for the next two years. The FRP that you give up nixes any opportunity to make a bigger trade, so he’s your main addition. You could use other firsts and filler to add some quality depth. But that’s your team now.
Harden is an upgrade from Jalen Green, especially if our core young assets stay intact...it's a consideration
