Manfred is determined to turn MLB into hokey Banana Ball.

I’d be ok with teams being able to reset their lineup for extra innings. That golden AB rule of doing it for a single batter at any point in the game seems pretty hokey tho.

Can Manfred just make up rules? It has to be voted on by the other owners, right?

The article clarifies that it's just something that has been floated around by some owners. I don't believe it's actually Manfred's idea, but the fact that he's not immediately shutting it down is extremely concerning. Dude is a grade A moron that seems intent on ruining baseball.

Even that is dumb. Let the fricking game be played how it is.

No. They need to do away with the current extra innings rule, and go back to how it was before.

The beauty of baseball is the rules have been largely in place forever. This mofo keeps wanting to change it up. Stop.

Oh, I'd prefer that. I just meant not getting to reset your lineup

Nah, they should adopt NFL OT type of rules (which I know have been tweaked). Sudden death, flip a coin to see who bats first and if you score at the top of the inning, the opponent doesn't get a chance to bat. If someone complains about not getting a chance on offense, just use the NFL fan verbiage of "baseball is two sides, you should have just pitched better and played better defense." Or use the tweaked NFL rules for MLB...In the 10th inning each team gets a chance but then sudden death.*

*Of course I don't want this in MLB but I'm 100% in favor of the NFL adopting college OT rules (just start them further back than the 25). Equal offensive possessions; like MLB.

I never thought about it that way, but the current extra innings rules are a lot like the CFB OT rules. Manfred man starting on 2nd base is like starting the offensive possessions on the 25. One more reason to hate it.

The problem, as a fan is that everyone except fans love it.

    players love it
    Owners love it
    media companies love it
    Umpires love it
players' wives and kids love it

    It's not going away.

Baseball doesn’t have a problem outside of the the slow pace of play and the expense of watching a game (both on TV and in person). They don’t have an excitement problem, so the rule Manfred was talking about doesn’t work to resolve their issues.

The pitch clock is a good change. They need to do more to limit pitching changes. They needed to speed up extra innings but the ghost runner is a stupid rule; people don’t care about ties so maybe just eliminate extra innings during the regular season.

But mainly they need to do whatever they have to do to make the games affordable to watch on tv and in person. I know they’re recapturing the rights to most teams but they need to have every team’s games 95% watchable for <$20/mo total. And they need to make attending games cheaper; discounted seats in sections with corporate sponsorships, discounts for kids/seniors, etc. You should consistently be able to get in the gate for <$20/seat.
