Poor Cody, he waited all that time, and when he finally got his opportunity he got blasted into smithereens.

The decision to go all in on Cody and separate from Moon cost the Oilers dearly. Cody being younger and extremely talented; plus highly coveted around the league made it to where almost anyone would have hitched their wagon onto Cody Carlson.

Unfortunately Cody didn’t sustain much of a career after that, Moon playing extremely well in Minnesota and I think even making a pro bowl there.

The Oilers fell into the abyss and they ended up picking Steve McNair soon after. But the demise of the Houston Oilers was already set and in place!

In hindsight, Cody Carlson’s injury closed the book on the Oilers Houston connection. The team was already aging, and well past the prime years for many of the Oilers stars of the early 90’s still on the team. Perhaps it was folks thinking that Cody Carlson was going to light the NFL on fire. But I still remember the fans were beyond heartbroken that it should have been the Oilers in the Superbowl, but instead it was the Dallas Cowboys owning the 90’s dynasty of the NFL.

I have heard the rumor that Bob Lanier had his falling out with Bud Adam’s, because Bud Adam’s didn’t grease anybody’s palms.

But I too have hear Moon was too prone to striking a woman; Oilers had a lot of sway back then and the sports media buried a lot of news.
