Proud of Jalen for not taking too many shots, but he missed lots of opportunities to attack the rim. Need him to always be aggressive going to the rim and getting FT's or kick out assists. Just need more assists and FTA's from him - everything else can be worked with. The team is perfectly capable of winning if he brings his 3pt shooting volume down to 35% on 4-5 attempts (almost half his current attempts). I wish Udoka would help him by limiting his all the jumpers he takes. The defense has been above average this season. On 3PA, Green is roughly: 38% on catch and shoot 3's and he takes 3.5 of these 27% on pull up jumpers and he takes 4.5 of these >> we gotta get rid of these, replace them with productive drives to the basket (FTA's and assists) or simply giving the ball to anyone else We can be a little bit more confident in the value he brings at 15-20 efficient ppg since his defense and other intangibles have improved. He seems to think he has to put up 30 or nothing.
Im really not sure how we would trade for a high minute rotation player without trading a rotation player...but theres no one in the rotation that id want to give up in a move for him...other than Jalen and right now im not even sure id do that. If we were going to make a move I think id prefer going after Brogdon. Hes cheaper and you could cobble together some combo that includes Tate and Holiday and a third player to match salaries. And adding Brogdon to the rotation wouldnt rock the boat much from a chemistry and role standpoint. You could get to 20 mins if you just took 5 mins from Fred, 2 mins from jalen and gave all reed minutes to him. And you could even get another 5-10 mins by having Jabari play more back up 5.
I'd take about 7 more minutes from Green. 25 min is enough for what he brings to the table, It's not like he's one of most proficient shooters or best defensive players, and his ASST/TO percentages are one of the worst on the team. 25 minutes is enough time for him to still work on improving, without stagnating guys who could end up helping us more overall in the future.
Jalen isn't a starting caliber NBA player but he does have some use vs certain matchups. As he showed against the Sixers. Hell, even if he could erupt against the bottom teams that'd help to conserve our other guys for games against better opponents. He also has some good defensive plays. The main issue is when we try to make him do things he just can't do. Amen has surpassed him already and it's only a matter of team before his scoring averages surpass him as well. But he does serve a purpose in a reserve role and the guys seem to like him. He isn't a bad kid. Hell...he might improve his averages if he was coming off the bench to score off of tired 1st units and inferior second units. Mikel Arteta does this with Gabriel Martinelli at Arsenal who is an amazing pace player but just doesn't have the skill to get past set or fresh defenses.
Updated On/Off stats for the season from Cleaningtheglass. Dillon's minutes are almost exactly matched to Alpi's, so he benefits from that (arguably, they benefit from each other).
I think Jalen Green still has potential to become a slightly worse version of Brandon Jennings. But he'll need to work hard to get to that point.
if Amen had the same number of shots as JG he would already surpassed him in scoring reposting this: for the last 10 games, Jabari has been our best 3 pt shooter 47.8% 3FG% 50.5FG% (2nd best) And interestingly enough, Amen 44.4% 3FG% (2nd best real low volume) 61.0FG% (team best) https://www.nba.com/stats/players/t.../12/2024&TeamID=1610612745&dir=A&sort=FG3_PCT
Amen should be starting as he is a superstar in the making, but there is no way Ime will mess with the starting five until this team starts losing a couple games here and there. He is a conservative coach that believes in his vets. It's not that bad a thing as long as it doesn't stretch out too long. I don't think Jabari was ever in danger of losing his starting job, that was just impatient fans calling for it.
If Amen replaced Jalen in the lineup, Jabari's PPG would go up and Amen's assists would go up. If Jalen doesn't shoot he serves no purpose but Amen is better at driving and Jabari is better at shooting so you're just splitting his load between two players.
Agree Amen should start. Objectively by the numbers, Amen gave us much more when he was on the floor. I thought it was not about Ime being conservative, it was politics. Stone gave Jalen 35+ m a year and putting Jalen into the bench would be signaling Stone made a huge mistake, and the GMs still have say on the coaches' jobs. Green's minutes are going to fluctuate depending on matchups and he's not going to close games.
I love how folks are praising Jalen for not being a chucker last night. He’s not impacting the game much but at least he’s not shooting us out of the game. That’s the new bar for Jalen at $36 mil per. But yeah, I’m happy he didn’t shoot much last night too. Lol
Yeah, and his ass was on the bench during the final 4 minutes. Also, laughing at people thinking we won a NBA championship instead of 1 game out of 82.
I understand the trepidation but I don't see how Brogdon moves the needle for this team. To me if the Rockets make a trade, then it has to be for a player that can be the difference between winning or losing a playoff series. I think Ingram is on the borderline of being such a player. I don't think Brogdon comes close to that. To me the issue is that guys like Reed and Amen are probably, at beast, 2 years away from developing into efficient-enough 20+ppg scorer type. Or you have guys like Jabari and Tari who even fully developed wouldn't be your go-to guy on offense. And Cam is... whatever Cam is. So if the Rockets have a contention window starting this year, they should look into optimizing it. Cause the team ain't getting any cheaper with Tari and Amen guaranteed to be getting $150~200+mil extensions coming up.
His balance is so much better this year on catch and shoot opportunities. Its good to see. He still floats off balance quite often, albeit it is much better, on his pull-up 3s. I am curious what his pull-up % is just from the dho/pnr and not the step backs. Could be visual bias but it feels like hes made like 5 of 30 Green has done a good job playing within himself this year. Hes stepped back very significantly this year when hes not on. Last night was maybe the most extreme case this year but when hes cold hes limiting his shots it feels. I want more consistency from him with his shot, but if he just keeps playing the right way on defense and doing the other things while limiting his shots, thats ok. That means his bad games arent horrible and disgusting, just means he didnt shoot well that night. Hes raised his floor, I just want more good nights. He still has an insane ceiling.
Some nights he will, some nights he won't. Just enjoy having a team that plays hard and together. Just win baby ! DD
Jalen Green is now a role player for us, but our team is not led by any one player, with our depth players take turns. He's not gonna be the guy that carries us night in night out.
Context matters. Right now he's making 12 mil, something u seem to really struggle with to grasp. If he was making 36 mil this year and he is getting praises for not being a chucker, sure call those folks out
