Goodness. Okay. That take was BLASPHEMOUS. But don't call me out like that. I just call it as I see it.

This thread makes little sense. Players grow and evolve constantly just like how people grow and evolve in life. Who someone was 5 years ago isn’t necessarily who they are today and who a player was 3 years ago isn’t who the player is today. Players who don’t evolve likely aren’t in the league. Just like any profession players adapt to change (defenses, rules, rosters). And players add wrinkles to their game as they try to improve every year or seek an advantage not too different than professionals in other industries. It’s a fan fallacy and flawed thinking to keep holding a player to who they were years ago.

Perhaps, but the value of this thread is to point out how silly it is to leap to conclusions early in a career about who a player will or will not become. Likewise threads labeling our current rookies as "busts" or future superstars are equally pointless.

Fair. But for instance if a fan points out a player’s deficiencies year 1 with data and evidence then there’s nothing wrong with that. That’s different than saying player X can never be or will never be or “sucks” or “trash”. That player can be better year 3 and an All Star year 4.

yes but here we had a very strong labeling and a condescending attitude by fans to both the player and other fans and also by the coach to the player. The player playing at an all star level right away with a new coach at 21 years old made it even more striking. We didn’t have to endure 2 more years of those shitty attitude.

Criticize? Yes. Demean and declare total career failure without looking at all factors? Nah.
