It's getting a little awkward with Reed. He gets the ball, gets a screen, turns the corner and just....does nothing with it. And again gets run with Jalen who is the absolute worst player to pair him with. Just send him down to RGV and run Holiday if he's going to be this afraid to shoot.
I'm starting to think they won't send him to the G league because of the possibility of him being further exposed there as well.
Then, maybe...he should do something in his 10 minutes? Other young players have started with minimal playing time and limited roles and have shown something to cause their minutes to increase. Reed has to learn how to process the game at nba speed and take shots on late closeouts from big athletic players. I don't think going down to the g league, dominating the ball and making plays for others will help Reed with his most probable role on the Rockets in the near future (mainly shooting in various scenarios). The teammates and style of play in the g league is just not similar to the Rockets. He's got to learn to make an impact with the minutes he has to gain more minutes. Plenty of other players have done it, he can too.
I know he's only 20 and Ime wouldn't be playing him if he didn't like something about his game in practice, but I'd feel a bit better if had attempted at least 1 free throw so far this year. He can't even get to the line once in 231 minutes played. That seems like a bad sign for his ability to create at the NBA level.
I would like to see him play more with Sengun and less with Jalen Green. It's the blind leading the blind with Green and Reed on the floor as the backcourt combo.
I can remember in one of Nash's early seasons him getting booed by his own crowd. Nash was pretty bad early on.
Reed is playing to avoid mistakes, which is fine to a point, but he can't play like that forever. His lack of aggressiveness is further illustrated by his not getting to the line EVER so far in his NBA career. He needs to loosen up out there. I think it's fair to say he was probably a reach at three, but it's way too early to worry about him being a bust. He's not very good right now, but there have been glimpses of what he will probably become. I'm not that worried about him long term.
I don't like Nash comparisons. Out of 100 Nash like drafts only one can turn into Nash. Rockets took an unnecessary risk with Reed.
I dont see what a lot of you see. He's averaging like 6 mins/half Hes the 8th or 9th man in the rotation. Hes not really playing enough to get in a rhythm and udoka is quick to pull rookies for mistakes. What needs to be happening is Freds minutes, particularly in the first half of games needs to be reduced some and Reed needs to be given a little more leash. Gleague isnt what he needs. That wont help him be what he needs to be for the Rockets this season.
I think we have those names because most white guys just have a below mediocre NBA career if at all. His mom and dad are college basketball royalties and there is a big chance he sticks around at least. He isn't Curry but that comp is more accurate as that is his archetype, he is not a god PG like Nash who happened to shoot well too. He is an undersized Combo guard with good shooting mechanics. That is his description for now.
He has to play with Sengun. Jalen’s low basketball iq and passing problems will never help Reed. Sengun may easily find Reed for open 3's. Sengun, Amen,Jabari,Eason and Reed can be a great lineup..
FVV,Price,Nash, even Stockton if we wanna keep doing the successful short white guy comps. They were all 4 year college players who didn't do much their first season in the league. Realistically Sheppard needed another year of development in college, and a few years development in the NBA. But when the chance to go top 5 in a weak draft presents itself you take it. The Rockets have 4 years for Sheppard to develop and learn how to work angles and keep his dribble. Maybe he never does, but man give it a little more than 19 games.
Reed will be fine. He is very overly cautious right now not wanting to make a mistake. He will grow out of it. His confidence will come. By the end of the season he will be proving his worth. I do not mind his cautiousness up to this point. I prefer that to someone with zero self awareness who just jacks up bad shot after bad shot. He is a young rookie playing in just his 19th NBA game. He will get better and gain confidence. I want to see him on the court with Alpi more who can get him some open looks.
Some people would be happier seeing Reed score 20 in a loss. Kinda like Rob last night who blew the game for the Wolves.
There is only so much you can do in 12 minutes when you're a rook. The only rooks that play close to the 12 minutes are Holland 5th pick(5 points) and Buzelis 11th pick.(4 points). Well, um, if he played better he would get more time!!! It's Udoka. You're going to have to be uncomfortable for a minute until he trusts you as a rook. Not excuses. Just the way it is. yehrr.
Your underselling him….he’s the next Curry!!! When his career is done he’s gonna make Curry look like a fraud.
He needs to work on faster pressure shots and getting those hamstring muscles for braking stronger. When he's sped up his form looks a bit busted.
