I posted this in the poison pill thread, but there's a bit more action in here. There are opportunities to move Jalen, although limited...

I'm not advocating for this necessarily, but Jalen and FVV for Trae and Capela works, even with Jalen's poison pill. Trae's struggling a bit to start the season and they're rebuilding, so he's probably gettable.

That pair also works in a trade for Ingram and McCollum.

McCollum would be an amazing upgrade at the position but I don't think his age lines up. It also would have to be next year and there is no way they are trading Jalen this year.

It was just a bad idea to extend him. Basically a similar situation to KPj. Gave out an "I don't really trust you" contract that still blew up in Stone's face.

I'm sure some trades could be forced, but for something we really want and at the very least it has to be after Dec. 31st

The rookie max that guys like franz got is estimated to be 25%, 24.5%, 24% of the cap the next 3 seasons. Jalen is 21.5%, 21.1%, 19.2%. It’s definitely less than the max but not by THAT much

the contract is fine from a risk reward standpoint.

the two things Jalen has in his favor that not many players in the league have it his raw talent and age. He’ll probably be traded with two years left on his deal which for a rebuilding team (whoever we trade him too) will be the perfect amount of time to figure out what he will be on a new team.

Again, 5 years at 25% is massively different than 3 yrs at 20%. Trying to arguing otherwise is absurd.

I agree he’s super popular, i’m a teacher out here in California and whenever i mention i’m a rockets fan it’s always jalen that students bring up. Idk how much that impacts his trade value though. You really think someone gives up multiple firsts? Why would they? Maybe an owner gets involved because of his name recognition i guess. If he was on another team there is nobody on this forum who would be willing to give up anything for him.

Ya 3.5-5% less per season, hence saying close to max. Little over 80% of the max, it’s not like he’s making 5% of the cap

I just don’t think any team wants to commit 25% of their cap to a guy who hasn’t proven he’s a good basketball player now into his 4th season. Being a great athlete doesn’t make you a future star. There has been no real progress on the shooting. And I don’t think we want to be tethered to Jalen for 2 more years including this one, when he clearly isn’t a net positive for the team. Benching a $36 mil per player is problematic. And better players on the roster are gonna demand Jalen money. The solution is to get him off the team and finally move on sooner rather than later. Sometime you have to evaluate what you have and make decisions. The half ass approach where we get a little pregnant does not work. You either commit or not. We have other great prospects we didn’t have to tether ourselves to Jalen unnecessarily with the extension. He’s not worth that money so we need to move off it. To me it’s pretty simple. I think it will cost us a decent asset to move off Jalen but it’s probably worth it. He’s taking up too many resources, too many minutes, too many shot opportunities. It’s time to move on. The worst thing someone can do is live with a mistake if there’s still an opportunity to fix it. It takes some humility and putting ego aside, but sometimes you acknowledge mistakes and work to fix them. That’s what our GM has to do.

The extension doesn’t kick in until next year so we actually have 4 more years of this ****. Let that sink in.

Unless Stone is allowed to be even more stubborn than I thought, he will need to figure out a way to prevent that from happening.

I know it is easy to pile on right now, but I still believe in JG.

This is an absolutely dreadful start, but I really do think the Rockets are going for 50+ wins, and we are ALL going to be locked and loaded come playoff team.

Still, the hierarchy needs to be adjusted by Udoka.

Amen and Alperen are the stars.

JG needs to be a 2-way Cuttino Mobley before he can be anything else.

Keep Jabari aggressive, please. As many good three attempts as possible.

JG has to understand he cant shoot 3. He should focus finishing and defence.

I agree. Right now he's closer to being a fringe nba player than a fringe all-star.

We have all seen Good Jalen and cringed at Bad Jalen. Last night he might've been sickly. Dunno. But I hope he'll cease all dribbling in the half court up high, just killing shot clock until he has to flip the switch on his incredible athleticism-- and turn the ball over. He's still young, but I'm beginning to wonder if he's teachable. It's a team sport, Jalen!

There are other reasons trading Green right now is not attractive to the Rockets. If they do trade him this year, they will be hard capped at the first apron. Jalen isn't going anywhere until the off-season at the soonest.

yeah I get that. I get that we are gonna have to live with him this year and that Stone has blown any chance to recoup value on our highest draft pick since Yao. But it’s gonna be a difficult balancing act with his minutes: doing what’s best for the team without making his value even worse than it already is. My fear is Stone isn’t slick enough to move Jalen without significantly hurting our asset war chest. The asset mgmt is absolutely terrible. The guy just won’t make decisive decisions unless it’s too late. And he rewards guys who haven’t earned anything because they’re “his guys”, like Jalen and KPJ which is bad precedent for the team.
