The problem is not offensively with Ime, it's DEFENSIVELY. The Spurs were getting to the basket at will in the 1st and 2nd Qtr. That's what got Sengun benched. Ime is a defensive coach, Alpi is an offensive player If you notice, Alpi plays best when his offense is clicking. When it's not, he's nowhere to be found. And that's what gets Ime mad. He wants him to continue to rebound and play defense. Jalen went through it last yr
Yep, this is where we agree. It's like signing Tony Allen or Ben Wallace to a team with MDA as the coach. Sure, they're great players, but that's not a good fit.
Alpi rebounded just fine in the first two games, in fact he led the league in rebounds. He wasn't given the opportunity to participate in the comeback.
Sengun had an awful game, if a player is off, sometimes it's more beneficial for the team to play with what works. U reward good performance and punish poor performance. Sengun could have came back in and ruin our potential comeback or he could have helped. With the way he was playing that game it was more likely he would have taken us out of the game. He was getting outplayed by the likes of sochan
They both have a “poison pill” for this season. That means incoming matching salary for the Rockets is their current rookie-scale salary. But incoming salary for the other team is the average of current yr plus AAV of the extension. That will be a substantial difference for Alp. here’s an article on RJ Barrett’s situation last yr … https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba...novan-mitchell-trade/riw4qyyprsszkiqku5pynthv Knicks still pulled off the trade for OG, but RJ Barrett’s salary matching had less of a difference, due to him being a high pick and relatively low extension.
Thanks @heypartner. So I guess it would theoretically be a bit "easier" to trade Jalen because his current year's salary is more similar to the AAV of the extension?
I disagree very strongly with this. Our opinions on this are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. I think the problem is entirely on the offensive side of the ball. Sengun is not a defensive superstar, he never will be, but his offensive abilities massively outweigh his defensive deficiencies. But if you don't take advantage of his offensive capabilities, then he becomes an overall liability. A good offensive coach could use Sengun in such a way that we could have a top 10 offense or even top 5 offense with this roster. But Ime is not that guy. We've seen how Ime uses him all last year, and this year, and if that's the role Sengun is going to play then I don't think it's a good fit. I'd rather get an Ime guy or find a new coach. As it stands he's just a square peg in a round hole.
