But he is only the 3rd worst 3 point shooter in the league who shoots 8 or more attempts per game.....so there's that.
Memphis ranking in 3pt% during Morant's 6 seasons: 19, 29, 23, 17, 20, 23. And yes, Ja still managed to get to the basket at will and dished out 8apg during this span. This isn't a "used correctly" issue. It's a talent issue.
Even if the team could surround Green with elite shooters, they'd probably be better players than him and he would again not be able to complement them at all. He's just not that caliber of player worth catering to. He only compares to Ja and Derrick Rose in terms of athleticism, not talent. Golden State's first order of business when Steph proved his worth was to unload Monta Ellis. Ellis was a super athlete whose game was extremely similar to Jalen's and he was never able to be a winning player. Putting him next to the Splash Brothers wouldn't have made him better, he just would have made them worse.
What talent exactly? It's about ferocity and aggression. Morant is not faster, nor stronger nor bigger than Green. He just attacks.
He's not only the worst... He's the worst by a WIDE margin... I tried to be a little patient with him. I tried to be optimistic that it'd finally click this season. But the team needs to move on. I wish that instead of giving him that contract they'd have let him go to UFA or even went ahead and traded him while teams still had his one hot month from last year dancing around in their heads. At this point Jalen has become a hindrance to success. These minutes and resources should be going to other players.
I guess this is this year's favorite Jalen Green stat that we'll see in every post. Last year it was on/off and any claim would be refuted by 'so if Jalen green is playing so badly, how can he have the most impact on the team?'. Now I am guessing that poster doesn't mention on/off anymore. And we don't get to talk about which player impacts the game more. (I don't interpret on/off stats as impact so I don't really care) Green is scoring like the other guards from 5 ft and Sengun had a bad start to the season. So what? It is meaningless. He also shot 15.4% from 5-9 ft. I think it is time to stop it, trying to find reasons why he can't succeed. He was supposed to improve his shooting over the summer, he couldn't. And he is not a special finisher either. He has an all time great first step and quickness but after that he is quite mediocre with finishing, making reads or passing. You don't try to surround an average finisher with shooters so that he can finish. At least no team would bet on that. He still has time till the end of season. It is on him to get back on track. Hopefully he will. It is sad that his super athletic abilities do not convert into good basketball.
It was specifically his on/off offensive rating since that was a positive, they ignored that the overall on off was a negative. As you can expect, Jalen apologists were never honest people.
I'd be almost sure he will have a game or stretch where he's hitting jump shots at a high rate and his game will look much better. And then he'll go back to something like what we've seen lately...
Unfortunately my guess is you are probably right. It's like watching some twisted version of ground hog day, where we keep watching the same clip of some guy climbing a hill, and people are jumping up and down and cheering as he hits 2 or 3 peaks, only to watch him fall backwards and roll back down to the bottom again.
Haha except there are some of us doing what Bill Murray did and try cracking the Groundhog algorithm while the others keep watching.
I think the usually suspects have all quit the board. Imagine Staning Jalen and trying to gaslight us about Sengun this whole time, and how things have played out. Sheesh, hide yourself in shame for the rest of time because no one will take anything you say about basketball seriously again, go take up pickleball commentary
OTOH some of those guys I disagreed with about JG seem like good people while I can’t read a lot of the comments from people who agree with me on JG thanks to God for the Ignore button. Go Rockets!!!
I just want the Rockets to win. I have been their fan when Calvin Murphy was their best player and I will be here after Jalen and Sengun are gone. I like Jalen as a person and see his potential, but there are some basic flaws to his game. Green is as much trade ballast as anything if he plays like this.
