You tell them to go shove a cheesesteak in their Tastykake hole...or something like that. Damnit. Now I want a cheesesteak and some Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes.
It's not even news. Alex won't make we a decision until after Soto because the teams that miss out on Soto will want Aex and drive his price up. But until then they are saving their money for Soto. That's just life
I mean, it's not really anything now. No significant offseason dominos have dropped for any team. One thing we can likely glean from available evidence is Bregman is asking for a lot of whole lot of money, so I imagine he will be a pretty late signing. Maybe some team gets desperate and gets closer to their number and overpays, or maybe nobody does and his price drops back down to a level Crane is comfortable with.
It was rumored that the Astros sent out an offer a couple of days ago. You guys think there's a deadline? If Bregman is going to take a while, I don't want the Astros being forced to wait while other potential players ends up signing elsewhere. Also the fact that it wasn't rejected might mean it was a really strong offer???
Astros/Bregman relevant excerpts from Bob Nightengale’s latest USA Today article: – The Houston Astros would love to have Alex Bregman back on a six-year deal worth about $156 million, but Bregman is seeking a deal worth at least $200 million. -If the Phillies trade Bohm, they are expected to make a strong play for Alex Bregman, whose talent and personality would fit in perfectly with the team, or perhaps sign Willy Adames and move him over to third base. (Also mentions Bregman as a possibility for the Yankees if they miss out on Soto)
Bregman in November "I want $200 mil+" *no offers* Bregman in January "Okay Crane, I'll take the $150 mil you offered" Crane "It's now $125 mil"
Bregman - "Really? Then I hope you enjoy the walkoff I hit off of Hader in the ALDS to crush your soul."
Are you sick of constant contention and winning more than one World Series? I swear, some people will b**** about literally anything.
Sick of the owner who has maintained one of the highest payrolls in baseball every season since 2018? The owner who’s clearly not ok with mediocrity? The owner who has done everything in his power to bring 2 WS titles to Houston? That owner? Couldn’t be me. He’s the best owner in the history of this city.
If Bregman is not resigned, I think the Astros would best be served by doing what they can to trade for Arenado. Hell, I'd still love him at 1b if Bregman is back. I'm also changing my tune a bit on Luis Robert. For the right price I wouldn't mind the Astros trading for him as well. I think with him being in his technically FA year (considering the following two are team options) he is worth a shot to see if he can play through any minor injuries he may have sat out while on a bad White Sox team. If he comes out balling then letting Tucker walk is not going to be as big of a deal, if not then the Astros as least know they have to completely replace that position and move on. 2025 Lineup 2b Altuve cf/dh Robert dh/lf Alvarez 3b Arenado rf Tucker c Diaz ss Pena 1b Singleton lf/cf McCormick/Myers Move Robert to dh when Alvarez goes to lf to save his legs. I would love to have Bregman in this equation and Arenado at 1b as well, but can't dream that big.
Tucker is walking whether the Astros want him to or not. But I think Robert is the only guy that makes sense in CF.
