47.4% from 3, 69.1 TS%, and we went on a run Jalen's rookie year when he got hurt and Garry Bird took over.

Have pity on him. He always bets against the wrong players. Think of Ashleyem as the "special " kid in class, just politely nod at the stupidity and move on with a smile.

Funny the Hawks do not call him that and he plays way better for them......he would be Garry Curry.

    41%
    38%
    36%
    34%
    40%
    44%
    47%

Can you spot the two (1.5) years in Houston? :D

    41% 2019-20 WSH
    38% 2020-21 WSH
    36% 2021-22 HOU
    34% 2022-23 HOU
    40% 2022-23 ATL
    44% 2023-24 ATL
    47% 2024-25 ATL

Saved in my drafts in the 3pt shooting thread but applicable here too…

Houston is where shooters go to die.

Can’t shoot, won’t shoot, forget how to shoot.

And this head coach ain’t substituting shooting for his defense.

Explain why Jalen went from a 36.5% shooter to 30% chucker?
Explain why Jabari went from Auburn sharpshooter (42%) to 32%?
Explain why Reed went from Kentucky sniper (52%) to hesitant? (His 38% ain’t terrible)

So I don’t even care about Jared McCain or Dalton Knecht or whoever. They’d forget how to shoot here too.

Yes, and then I'd immediately cut Garry Bird.

Yes. We desperately need his 9 points a game on 5 shots.

Trading Green for Matthews, in a hypothetical world where the CBA allows it, would both open up a lot of capspace for the Rockets this upcoming offseason. As well as provide them with more room to give Tari and possibly also Jabari big extensions this upcoming offseason. Unless you think Jalen is still a star-in-waiting, this is actually a good trade for the Rockets.

This is semi off topic but a big part of efficiency that I think goes unnoticed by a lot of fans is all in shot diet/shot selection, and the way you're used in the offense. Garrison Matthews didn't just become a bad shooter when he came to this team, his percentages were lower because we used him poorly. For example (purely an example, making these numbers up to prove the point) if Garry shoots 50% on set shots and 35% on movement shots, he could end the season at 50% from 3 if you only make him take set shots, and fans would say "wow, a 50% 3 point shooter!". Or he could end the season at 35% if you only have him take movement shots, and fans would say "wow, he's a below average shooter! Did he forget how to shoot?" That's not Houston ruining his shot, he's not getting any "worse" at shooting - it's the exact same player being used in two different ways. It's kind of funny that Jabari was seen as a disappointing shooter last year, and yet he shot 46% on wide open 3s. We managed to turn a guy who shoots 46% on wide open 3s into a below average shooter. I don't think the problem is Houston causing players to shoot any worse. I think the problem is that we put very little emphasis on getting guys the shots that they're good at, and we also do a very poor job at getting guys to avoid shots that they're bad at. I think more effort in this area by the front office and coaching staff would go a very long way.

Yeah, that's the only reason you make that deal - If you think Jalen is what he has been - and just want to clear the cap space..

His contract doesn't hurt this year or next - but the 26-27 season its harmful ... If you spend the MLE in any year between now and then, you are almost certainly a 2nd apron team in 26-27 even with FVV expiring - with both Tari & Jabari getting significantly less than the max.

I might be inclined to give him the rest of this season but if he hasn't improved the consistency, I'd be looking for a deal in the offseason either for a star or little salary in return that doesn't affect my future cap.
