Yes I have. I don’t see him being buried in the corners. I’ll watch closer next game for that. But he has the highest usage on the team and that’s where he takes the fewest shots by far so it doesn’t make sense that he’s spending a ton of time there…there’s only so many possessions and seconds on the shot clock.
He's 0.83/3 of what he should be, according to my numbers. I have been watching the games. All the games. Jalen is missing open shots. Guys like Amen, Jabari, and Reed have also shot worse than I wish them to, but Amen is at least a great finisher and playmaker. Reed is a timid (/scared) rookie who will hopefully gain confidence as he gets more experience. Jabari... well, he might just be a worse shooter than I had hoped for, and is certainly a worse shooter than he was hyped to be as a draft prospect. Jalen isn't a good finisher. He isn't a good playmaker. He isn't a great defender. He's great at getting past the first defender, but he was already pretty damn good at that as a rookie. The hope would be that he would add something to that over time, but he hasn't yet. And he might not ever. I've accepted that. He has poor shooting form and hasn't taken the time to fix it. Whether that's because he's unable to or because he doesn't care to, it is what it is. I've accepted it. It's who he is. Still, it is frustrating to think of how disappointing he has been thus far in his career.
I thinkthat's the main problem... Average shooter Average handles Average playmates Average defender who gets hot sometimes. We all hoped he would become consistent and his hot games become the norm, but I don't see it at this point.
As i explained in my sevral posts on this thread most of the sets designate him in the corner while the action is ran thru Sengun high post. He runs out to get a DHO top of the key from Sengun at times. When Sengun has the ball mid post Green is on the weak side wing. When Sengun isn’t in the game he sometimes gets the ball on the wing. But again none of those sets create space or actions that move the defense. Very stagnant.
I don’t understand how it can be “most of the sets” sending him to a corner where he’s only shot 15 times all season while also having the highest usage on the team. I’ll watch the next game for it.
yes please do. As i said he doesn’t shoot from there as the ball rarely goes there but he’s there. The action is ran up top and it usually doesn’t Involve him. Just because you are designated a spot in an initial set doesn’t mean you stay there. Plays break down and you rotate or cut etc to get open. And i also said he still gets the ball on the wings and DHO’s up top.
What he's trying to say is that his guy is being mistreated because he's not the focus of every single play.... he just leads the team in usage and shot attempts, he doesn't lead the league in usage and shot attempts so apparently that's why he sucks at basketball.
Then I misunderstood. I thought you said Udoka wanted Green shooting corner 3s. Bottom line is I don’t think him stepping to a corner is mattering much if it’s just getting him moving to somewhere he ultimately does shoot…particularly since he’s already shooting more than anyone else on the team. If he was stagnating in the corner I’d get it…but if that’s the case he’d have more than 15 total shots from there so far.
Its all about making excuses for Jalen not being able to hit the broad side of the barn. It is very simple, he either becomes a decent shooter or he is a bust. The rest of his game is not nearly enough to make up for his putrid efficiency. I’m a very patient man and don’t think we should bench him, but he is our biggest issue as a basketball team and he either gets it this year or he is gone. I would move him to the bench if he hasn’t shown improvement over the next 10 games. It actually would be interesting to see Green work against second units.
you should read before opening your mouth. There’s nuances and reasons to everything. You and many people here oversimplify.
i feel like Jalen is not a good enough shooter to be jacking up the most 3’s on the team…by a lot. And he’s not even the 5th best player on this team so he probably shouldn’t be starting either.
I think that is a lot of peoples sentiment. Even Wembanyama who is shooting 9 threes at 33.6% game is shooting better than Jalen, albeit I think spurs fans are probably as equally frustrated their 7'3 unicorn is shooting so many threes.
Would legit trade Jalen for Cam Thomas right now. League average SG play would be a huge for this team.
I really wonder how much effort Jalen is putting in off the court and during off season, only true insiders know. Hearing about someone like Embiid not really caring and showing up to everything late, this is something we found out this year. You have less sympathy for someone like that after suffering all of those injuries. Jalen just does not seem to have done a whole lot year over year, maybe a slightly improved defender. At some point we will know the truth, but i think all of the pre draft hype was just hype about him being like Kobe when it came to preparation.
they may be equally frustrated about the 3’s but they aren’t doubting his value to the team the way any objective person would Jalen.
We can overanalyze causes to death and probably all of it play a role. But at the end of the day, Jalen either needs to be an pretty solid above-league-average shooter or should take a leap on other aspects of his game, whether that's playmaking or defense. Being elite at one of those things would help. It's tough because he's flashing none of those - and his shooting has consistently been bad. You could say he wasn't in the right environment or didn't have the right teammates or the coach, but it's not like our other players are somehow not subject to that. Sengun for example has faced the same hurdles and even more. And I don't really understand what kind of team you are envisioning that'd give Jalen an even longer leash - he's gotten all the minutes he can, has been given a chance to play poor basketball for 4 years with no worries of losing his starter spot, is allowed to take the most shots in the team despite shooting poorly, and has the highest usage almost in the team. Is there any rookie that's been given as long a leash as Jalen has? Seriously, I'm genuinely curious, so literally asking, can we name one rookie that's been given this long of a leash? You can criticize Rockets or our offensive system or our apparent inability to grow young talent sure, and all would be fair and true, but what could he have hoped for more than this? Excuses are dime a dozen and can be and actually is continuously dug up for all our players - unfortunately some folks are more eager to dig them up for certain players than others, but whatever - none of it matters. At some point, it's time to admit that this combination of factors at this point in space and time just didn't work.
