If he can get to 53% shooting and continues to get around 17 FGAs, he will finish the year with 23ppg/11/5 Only in Rockets Fandom a 22 yr averaging those numbers isn't considered a star. every era of ball from the 70s to 2018 says the contrary
Because Dillon is only good at one thing, defense. He is a bad offensive player and rebounder. His 3 pointer is meh. The only reason this is even a suggestion is because Jalen has been so bad. If SG is your problem, fix SG.
His 3 catch and shoot 3 point shooting has been pretty good. He was at 42%. I'd take that any day of the week. He hits that fadeaway pretty routinely. Sure id rather get an upgrade but who would even be available?
I actually think Brooks could be our starting SG IF one of Bari, Eason, or Amen steps up and takes over that consistent #1/#2 scoring option next to Sengun. That's what we are desperately missing, someone who can consistently put up at least 20 ppg (ideally 23+) on at least a .57 TS% (ideally closer to .6). Green, FVV, and Bari have been that guy at various points this season, and I think Tari and Amen have the potential to do so as well. But someone has to step up and do it on a consistent basis, and if it's Bari, Tari, or Amen who steps up, I do think it would be feasible to have Brooks start at 2 and let Green come off the bench as an offensive spark.
He is fine on offense he just doesn't stop taking shots when he is cold. They need to remind him that he is not our 1st, 2nd or even 3rd option on offense.
He was getting hacked tonight, but the regression on his finishing is puzzling. I don't know if his arms are getting tired from all the rebounding and blocking, or it's the attention he's getting around the rim - probably both. The entire team is suffering from this so my sense is a little bit of it is the energy we spend on defense. I'm not super worried as it's not something you usually regress on, and he's slowly starting to show flashes of being back to his old self. Definitely needs to improve there though.
To continue our discussion from the other thread, I think EPM (single season) is a really good stat, a much better one than BPM. There are some other good ones too, but I think BPM (and VORP, which is basically just BPM multiplied by minutes played) are pretty bad. If you want Alperen to be a tier 1 player, I would say the low end for that is typically around +6. It's not perfect, I'm not setting a hard limit there (I don't even really look at EPM to decide who I consider a tier 1 player), but that would be a good low bar to set. He's at a 4.2 right now, which is still very good, and hopefully it will continue to go up. But to give some context to these numbers, Giannis best season was 8.6, Curry's best was 10.5 (he hovered in the mid 7s during his prime), Jokic has been in the 8s and 9s, Shai was at 7.7 last year for his major breakout superstar season. Harden peaked at 9.4, most of his prime was in the 7-8 range. So if you want to look at advanced stats, I think that should give you some context on what I'm looking for. But the stat isn't perfect, there are some guys on there that I think are hugely overrated or underrated. Maybe you think that's true for Sengun. But also, it's not just about stats for me. I said this a few years ago and I still think it's true - there are two areas where Sengun has to improve if he wants to become a true superstar. He can maybe (probably?) get there if he does 1 out of these 2 things, but if he does both he'll be MVP tier. The first one, which I think we can safely say isn't happening, was for him to become an above the rim player. Could've been any combination of major focus on training his jumping ability, getting in REALLY good shape, drastically improving conditioning, getting a bit taller, or whatever. But he misses way too many bunnies, and also gets blocked too much, because his go-to move directly under the basket is a layup off the glass. If he could turn all those into effortless dunks it would help him out a ton. The second one can still happen, but I find it unlikely, and that's shooting. The 3 point shot is really important, he's got to have that, and I haven't really seen the improvements there that he needs. The shot looks better and the release is better, but we're now in year 4 and he's still right around 30% on less than 2 per game. That's not a good sign in year 4. But also the midrange, it could be the "Sombor Shuffle", the Dirk, or whatever, he can also do it his own way with the "flamingo" shot. But either way, for Sengun to break into that upper echelon he has to become a good shooter. As long as he is a player that plays mostly below the rim, missing bunnies and getting blocked, and also a player that can't shoot, I don't think he can become a superstar. He can still be very very good (duh, he already is), but he cant get into that top tier without developing one of the above two skills. That's my long answer to the "why isn't he tier1" from the other thread.
