If I was a coach, ball-hogging on offense and ball-watching on defense would piss me off too. That's the ultimate no-no combo no matter how talented you are when you actually try.
I don't think the medical was ever that - Givony said during the draft the medical concern was that he would have problems in the back half of his career, not now. The reason why he dropped was a combination of that, a bunch of bad interviews/workouts, and some of the ball hogging limitations that went with his college career.
Cam probably should have stayed in college for one more year. He missed a lot of games and wasn't really that dominant when he played. The talent was there. Just didn't get to show a whole lot. That might be why teams didn't rate him that high at the draft.
He sure got his shots up though. If you count the dunk attempt he was fouled on, he had 5 FGA in 5 minutes. Now that's efficiency!
I just don’t like watching Cam play. I can’t imagine he’s fun to play aside either. As soon as he has the ball, you know what’s going to happen.
I dunno. I think he showed pretty well last year as a rookie. This year.... ehh... not a wonderful start. But he was physically there, and his team obviously knew he could produce in a bench role right away. There's no guarantees if you wait a year for the next draft with assumptions. I do think he'd likely be the #1 pick this last Summer but so many variables such as the relationship with his college coach, or injuries. If he was my kid or I was his agent, I probably would have him enter the draft too. The issue is he obviously needs to sort of reset the season, and carve out a role on this team. It's too early in his career to conclude that he needs to move to another team to find a role. The NBA spits these guys with this talent out of the league all of the time if they cannot find a role that helps teams win in the short term. Cam is probably the more talented prospect than Jabari or Tari but we know for certain both of those guys will have a career in the NBA while we aren't sure if Cam will because those two guys have proven themselves as valuable as defenders, and that they can do the things you need to do as a role player to help a team win. .... Needless to say it's going to be a very important next few weeks for Cam. If he allows himself to be an "expendable prospect" at the end of the bench he'll be just as expendable to the next team, and the next. He's gotta make sure he defends at a super high level when he gets minutes, and he's gotta get in the gym and fix that 3 point shot.
Right now he's getting in his own way with his bad attitude and extremely low bbiq. The talent is there but the hollow void between his ears is sabotaging his potential.
This is true. Being 20 years old can be excuse for not being very smart, but the attitude thing can last forever. I hope he has some good mentors in his life.
They weren’t bad shots though and he makes the ball and moved with out the ball. He only took open shots. He passed the ball. His first possesion eh got an assist to Sengun breaking down the defense. What more do yall want for him?
Open doesn't necessarily equal good. Cam was 1 for 18 from three coming in, and in the 5 minutes he played he threw up 3 more misses. He's now shooting 4.8% from three and 63% from two. The two times he drove hard all the way to the rim, good things happened. The other time he put the ball on the floor, he had the assist to Sengun. He clearly has talent, but he needs to play to his strengths.
Cam is just in a tough situation. The team never expected to land him in the draft and he only got minutes last year because of Tari's injury. The playing time simply isn't there. I mean, aside from when they're up 20 points on the Pacers halfway through the 4th quarter.
Jalen and Cam look like they're going to be the odd men out. This team needs consistent SG play and we're loaded at the 3 position.
Yeah, it's a tough situation. This team just has too many mouths to feed minutes too and the addition of Shepard exacerbated that. He'll get another chance sooner than later either here or on another team ..... I just hope for the team's sake that IF he blows up, it happens here, not after being traded. I'd hate to be on the wrong side of a "Harden trade" where we ship out the best prospect of the group.
