The passing motion was already started before Sengun breaks away from Giannis. Freddy was not reacting to a wide open Sengun he was "leading his man" if you will towards a layup and counting on Giannis being drawn out. Seems the ball was aimed towards the side of the rim and not at it. If Sengun gets up earlier he can probably get to it and bring it down as it wasnt overthrown outside of his length. Sucks it didnt work, but thats a clever play to tuck away and perfect. It will give them either the run to the rim or a wide open 3 - like an option play for basketball where the inbounds passer can control the defender with his eyes. It surprised me I didnt expect Udoka to have that in his toolbox.
If Alpi breaks away a split second sooner or Fred doesn't throw as far, it's an absolute highlight reel buzzer beater dunk. Game of inches. Interesting thought for these type of plays going forward -- why not Amen Thompson as inbounder? He's got the passing chops and vision, and his length would give him a few more options an angles. He's probably not one of your best options for a contested shot anyway (other than maybe as a rim runner?), so find a way to use him?
I don't really care about that last possession. It happens. No need to dwell on a split second mistake. What I'm concerned about is that we are 15 games into the season and his true shooting is still well below the league average. I appreciate his improvements, but we need to see some consistent offensive production from him. And a good game against a strong, defensive center.
I'm not convinced he has the passing chops for this to be honest, but now you've got me thinking...you mentioned Amen as a rim runner. Could Amen not take the Sengun spot in that same play? Someone as athletic as Amen not only catches that inbound pass easily but probably turns it into a lob if we're being honest. That dude can jump out of the gym and is probably the most athletic guy on the team.
This is why I don't take you seriously. You just post dumb ish without facts. Look at how many points Lopez got on Sengun, through putbacks, missed pick & roll coverages & slow close outs..You can CLEARLY see Sengun's assigned to Lopez most the game. Is the video evidence wrong too?
Lopez got the better of the matchup yesterday. Still, Lopez scored 14 points on Alpi and Alpi scored 10 points on Lopez. You can see it by filtering here: https://www.nba.com/game/hou-vs-mil-0022400248/box-score?type=matchups Not a huge difference, not what decided the game.
Lopez hit five 3s, some of it way out in Lillard's range. Nobody could defend it when he's that hot. (Maybe Wemby could.)
No one takes you seriously. Lopez had a great shooting game. Alp had the highest +/- in the game last night for the Rockets, and still the best rated defender on the team after Brooks. You have no ability to be objective, everyone knows why you can’t be. Same reason you love Stone so much
He's playing a significantly different game than last year and we're still winning while he's adjusting. Ime and Co are trying to turn him into Jokic...and not let him flounder at Sabonis. Lopez is a good example of a center that would stymie a Sabonis type. Those centers really gave us trouble last year.
I’m only talking about Sengun since this is a Sengun thread. And I specifically haven’t seen a player on this current team completely stop playing with any movement while the other team is executing a fast break.
You are clearly trolling at this point - Udoka himself complained that our perimeter defenders let him get hot from 3. Our perimeter defense is usually the weaker part of our defense btw
Alpi still struggles in the second half of b2bs. Team still learning how to win close games. FVV tried to throw a lob and Alpi didn’t have the legs to go get it. I expect a friendly whistle on Wednesday after the refs blew the out of bounds call in this one. Alpi is still our best player (for now). People on here ready to complain the first chance they get.
