In a season where even the most optimistic of us thought we would make a slow, steady climb upward, we're 10-4 and sitting 3rd in the WC and 5th overall. And we're doing that mostly with core players under 24 years old. Sure, we may not keep playing at that level, but this is a young, confident team that has developed chemistry together. And some of you are ready to trade half that core AND a bunch of our picks for Giannis??? Mortgage our future on a deal that would add a no-longer-young star, but greatly weaken our bench and likely not even make us significantly better. I find the idea silly, but knock yourselves out dreaming that the guy with a cool nickname will bring us glory.
One of these is not like the other... Better slide that boy over with Amen and Tari. However, I am happy to see you have moved your Alperen Sengun targets from Shaedon Sharpe, AJ Griffin, and Jaden Ivey to Giannis Antekoumpo. Meanwhile, through 14 games Alperen "limitations" Sengun is manning the middle on a top 3 NBA defense, ranking 5th in the NBA in Blocks Per Minute, and 1st in the NBA in Rebounds Per Minute. Smart, tough, accountable, FOUNDATIONAL.
Crazy talk trading 20-22 yo upcoming allstars to 30 yo pure athleticizm dependent player. Nothing to discuss here.
They will ask for one of Tari or Amen, book it, they are not stupid to start their rebuild with an Offense only guy with tunnel vision. Going for a Kawhi lite is the first step.... most defensive teams would select for. I would say they would want an Amen, Tate package with hopefully only 2nd rounders, but I see 1st rounders as well. Probably have to add someone like Brooks instead of Tate due to salary purposes. A bounce guy for another athlete.
Trading for Giannis doesn't make sense with how well the Rockets are playing. Would he even move the needle, considering how much the Rockets would have to give up for him? Better off sticking with what we got and building confidence in these young guys.
Hard pass. Yes, Giannis is a great player but he cant shoot. Considering that we already lack shooting and what we’d have to give up, we’d likely be in a situation not much better than Milwaukee is in currently. As others have pointed out, he’s also going to be on the wrong side of 30 soon…
Amen and Sengun are untouchable. Giannis is headed to NJ in my opinion, but the Rockets should offer 6 frp,s and matching vet salaries. When the Rockets extended Jalen and Sengun they signaled they are hanging on to their young guys. FVV, brooks, and other vets maybe Cam and Sheppard plus a boatload of draft picks is the only thing available for Giannis.
Risky move. We’d only have a very short window. I’d do it if the value was good , which for me means keeping two of Sengun , Amen and Tari. Eg a Bari, Amen plus all our picks, or Bari, Reed, Cam and picks, DB to match salary. Doubt whether that’s enough for the Bucks. OKC seems the obvious destination unless Presti fumbles it again.
The Rockets have pretty much said that Amen is untouchable and the extension of Sengun signals they view him that way as well.
Just saying it wouldn't be the formerly best Defense if they settle for Green and Cam, okay defenders but without a safety net such as Giannis they are not shouldering the Defense themselves. Defensive quality has to get back.
I'm against trading for Giannis. Obviously he is an MVP level candidate that I can definitely see him elevating us, at the same time that window seems short to me and ultimately he is easy to game plan against in the playoffs. He sucks at shooting, sucks at shooting free throws in the clutch, and overall just not someone that I feel would get us quite to that level. I get it though, our young guys, for as awesome as they have been recently, don't necessarily have that stand out guy to what it seems like most posters. Maybe I'm an idiot for believing in Sengun so much, but he really seems like this guy, not sure why everybody is so impatient especially when he has shown signs.
I don't want any part of a Giannis trade. He's about to turn 30 and relies heavily on athleticism. Also, the Rockets are a really good team this season. Yes, they've had a soft schedule so far, but they're taking care of business including on the road. They're 4-2 away from Toyota Center after starting 0-8 last year. Let this core stay together and grow.
