1.The dude had been here two days and he was making fun of Aeros announcer Ken Double for "his call". Yeah, I know, it's minor league hockey, but Vanderjerk was the guy being bush league. And what the hell was his "call"? "Rock and Roll". Please, the lameass makes Milo Hamilton sound good by comparison.*

2.Then he said he didn't know that Joe Morgan started with the Astros. I know he was new at that time - BUT READ A FREAKIN' BOOK, MORON. I am so sick of the Johnny Granato come lately's that don't have a clue about what happened in this town more than 5 minutes ago.

    3. Next all he wanted to talk about when he first got here was the damn Miami Hurricanes.

    4. He's too much a w**** for the Texans to the exclusion of other local teams.

    5. Talks too much about non-sports crap, like movies and TV.

*Although a little too much of a homer for my taste, Gene Peterson is still the best radio play by play guy in town (among the 3 major league sports).

As far as 610 generally, it blows. It's ridiculous that this town doesn't have one good sports talk station. Hell, we don't even have one good sports talk show. Granato, Lord. Marky Mark, Rome, and Danny Patrick are like aural Abu Ghraibs. Pallilo(sp?) and Lance are the only ones that aren't evidence for man's inhumanity to man.

I have to agree with what I quoted from you above. As my roommate would say the,"Rock and Roll" catch phrase is so contrived.

The thing that sticks to me about Vandermeer is why he feels the need to go off on other subjects. Its almost as bad as Pallilo and Lord in the afternoons (those guys are absolutely in love with cliches). The morning show is okay (now that the golf hour is gone, I like Harmon, but he was dreadful on the radio, almost as bad as listening to Dan Patrick and his lackys making jokes and laughing all the time). Vandermeer show is barely bearable. Rome is getting tired and old real quick. DP and crew suck. Drivetime is absolutely horrible. MJ is somewhat bearable (he is a "clone" with a show).

AB, I have heard you on the show a couple of times when I flip through the stations, you sound great. Much better than MV.

I've always thought Vandy didn't make the best radio host in the world but I like his play-by-play.

Granato kinda grates on me ("Guess what?"), but he is a nice guy and he definitely has life to him. Lance seems like the world's most distracted human, but he is such a great guy and knows a TON about sports, so I like listening to him. Rich and Charlie have been favorites for a VERY long time. I like them both as people (Rich is a great guy to hang with and just talk music and sports) and Charlie is like a frickin' encyclopedia of sports.

I don't hate 610 though I often feel the need to kill myself when I hear Patrick and Dribble in the afternoons. :)

Look man..I don't publicy berate how you ask for 75 tickets for a ring with a spider on it at Chuck E. Cheese when we all know that piece of crap is only worth 10 tickets do I?

Look when you post a post with that much hatred in it you become unconvinceable so whatever...enjoy all of the sports talk on...oh wait...there is no more. Whatever.

Our shows are good...not perfect...they could use some work...but they are good.

You are so right about LZ! HE is the most distracted human being on earth! I agree with you about 2-4. Wouldn't it be great if Charlie had his own show from 2-4;)

He does the morning show, right?

I've always wondered if I could do radio. I think I'd be worrying too much about cursing on accident. About 8 years ago while I was waiting tables at Joe's Crabshack I met one of the executive producers on KTRH. He kept telling me throughout his meal that I would sound good on the radio, gave me his card and told me to come down to the studio. I didn't take him seriously and never went. What might have been.

    You're gonna hate me then.

I guess everyone has their tastes but I listen to sports radio ALL THE TIME, so I need a little bit of everything mixed in. That's what SR610 tries to accomplish (I think). They want to appeal to the fans that listen 24/7 and if it were all sports talk then the repetition would drive people crazy.

Chance has done a great job in making listening more fun, he has instituted fun contests, and more personality and is to be commended. However, there is a lot more that he wants to do that just hasn't come into fruition.

Give SR610 another chance, not because I'm there on Thursdays, but because we would be a lot worse off without it.

Furthermore if anyone else says something negative about Marc, I’m kicking their ass.

    ROCK AND ROLL!

AB, I might not mind listening to you on those topics. If by some strange disorder in the cosmos which results in the Astros winning tomorrow, V will probably spend more time talking about some movie or a Texans 3rd string linebacker.

As far as Chance, I am not gonna sugar coat it just because it's the only game in town. Unless you program it, don't take my remarks personally. For the record, I don't dislike every host, just those not named Charlie or Lance. I do admit hearing Lord play Gracie Allen to Charlie's George Burns can sometimes be amusing, but it's not much to build a sports talk show on. The two weekend guys aren't that bad and David D is a good reporter, but he's a yawn when filling in on one of shows. I also can't stand any of the ESPN bozos either. Maybe I'm just hard to please, but I think this town deserves better.

It does and I am absolutely working on it. I appreciate your input.

Why do I want to sing: "You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel."?

    Chance,
I truly do regret having highjacked this thread and I do look forward to checking out AB, both on the radio and at a show sometime.

I guess my problem is that I have a personality conflict with a lot of the hosts. By that I mean that they come across to me as being more interested in themselves than in the sports they are obstensibly talking about. At least they are not as horrible as trying to watch ESPN Sportscenter. I long for those good old days when anchors just told me the score and gave me a few highlights. Now everybody wants to be cute and clever. I prefer the plain vanilla approach even in sports talk, but I guess the market research indicates I am a part of a small minority.

While I don't like MV's show for the reasons I gave, I think what provides the venom to my opinion is his remarks about Ken Double. Maybe I took it the wrong way, but I didn't think it was very appropriate (even in jest), and it probably colors my whole perception of him.

Anyway, I hope there are no hard feelings. I have enjoyed your songs because they actually succeed at being clever.

    Chance.....

Vanderbeek is a dork. He thinks because of this "gig" with the Texans he is cool.

He's not. You know it. I know it.

Put CP on from 2-4, and pair up Rich and Fizzle. Hilarity will ensue.

I spoke with Marc about him blasting Ken Double and he was like, "WTF? No way I spoke ill of him. He's a friend of mine." He is very protective of play by play guys so I tend to believe him. He won't even say anything critical of Milo. A appreciate your response.

I was thinking about this thread this morning and I realized that in programming this station we have three types of fans, for them most part. Fan 1 is a die hard sports fan. A stat geek. He hates the personality side of our station. He thinks LZ's impersonations get in the way. He thinks Charlie Palillo walks on water. He thinks Johnny G is a nuisance. Fan 2 Is Joe Barstool. He listens a lot. likes laughing at the silliness of the morning show and digs the sincerity of the Drive Time Players. He can live without a lot of the guests and LZ's breaking down of blocking schemes. Fan 3 just flips over to us periodically to find out last nights scores, get some picks, find out what time the game is on, and flips back to the Arrow or 740 or whatever. I think our audience is pretty well split between these three classes. It is difficult to program for just one of them becuase it alienates the others. I fall in Fan 2 category but recognize the importance of programming for the first group.

    Always trying, though.

Marc will be here for a long, long time. The Texans love him, 610 love's him and the advertisers love him.

Plus he has a hot wife.:D

Stop trippin Rasta, before I have to open up a can of whoop ass!
