Whl hired this dumbbass? Pretty sure he got connection. Noway they would hire someone that young and don't know crap about football.
Hey Now! You get it! I hear guys bicker about "bunch formations" alot on here as if they understand the concept. How many know that 50% of that alignment is to set up the run? You want to spread out the defense and create some lanes inside. Our fans only seem to see it as a wasted chance to pass. Same thing with the infuriating bubble screen the Shanny offense likes to use. It works with Nico because the guy can plant and be 10 yards down the field in a flash, but it wont work with any WR, but its only setting up the run by softening the coverage.
Ahhh yes! No tantrum would be complete without the ad hominem stuff! NOW WE'RE COOKING WITH GAS! LOL Yes all Bobby had to do was draw up Tanks post route a little deeper so that he could be 15 yards wide open instead of 10. All Bobby had to do was remind CJ that on WCO rollout the TE is usually going to be open. You're quick passing take is relevant. Slowik kills himself by not installing some rush routes for CJ underneath, but again nobody is getting open anyway when they are there! You guys play too much Madden thinking that the way plays are drawn up are how they get executed. The defense gets paid too you know. The TEMU wideouts we have are easy to contain man up. You guys dont want to come to terms that this team isnt as weaponized as the pre season hype train thought. The guys who are tasked with fulfilling their jobs have fallen flat on their faces too often when the alphas are out of the lineup. When you cant count on a wideout to make a play what do you do? I'd do the same thing Bobby is hope that the next best player (Joe) can do something with the ball. When Nico is in the lineup I'll come back to check on you and see what you notice then.
it’s too easy to isolate single plays to prove a larger point. Having said that, it was 100% execution, and not play calling, that led to Stroud’s interception in the end zone. Given the offensive line, we know execution is an issue. And whatever Ryans is saying publicly, he is saying much more definitively in the film room because it is likely obvious. None of that absolves Slowik. But there is absolutely no scenario in which the players do not realize execution is an issue.
Stretching the Safeties is kind of important. Nici appears to be the only WR that can do this, because Schultz and Stover sure aren't sent down the seams a lot.
Whats so hard to understand? We have one of the worst offensive lines in football. No WRs that can get open. TEs who dont want to block. RBs who cant stay healthy and the most uncomfortable elephant in the room -- CJ is having a hard time diagnosing and delivering. I dont want to think it has anything to do with "processing" so I'll wait until the peripheral components around him get shored up. Its right there in front of everyones face. Has nothing to do with X's and O's.
Because I was both curious and a glutton, I decided to take a closer look at their second halves, and you know what? It's not as bad as we think it is, and I have a theory why we think it's bad... I threw out the Vikings and Patriots games because the second half didn't matter in either game. Overall, in the other six games, they've had 40 2H possessions (I discarded three clock-drain/kneel down possessions): Punts: 20 "Scoring" drives: 14 (9 FGs; 3 TDs (none since week 4); 2 missed FGs, which I'm counting as "scoring" since the drive did move them into FG range) 3-&-outs: 8 Turnovers: 6 Penalties: 15 Sacks/scrambles: 28 My theory on why we think it's much worse: between the Bears, Jags and Packers games, the Texans had 18 2H possessions, and punted 14 times. Interestingly, the Jags & Packers games ended with potential game-winning/game-winning drives. But 70% of their punts came in these three games - games I think we all sense they should've won and/or won by a lot. But clustering the punts in just a few games makes it feel like they're punting all the time, and they're really not. In the other five games... they haven't been *terrible.* In 22 2H possessions, they've: - scored on 9 & missed 2 other FGs (11/22). - five drives ended in turnovers (the 2 INTs Sunday; the Stroud fumble v Colts; the INT & fumble v Bills). - only three 3-&-outs. - only six punts across five games. - the Lions game is actually the first 2H in which they haven't scored a point. Two things that stand out: 1) 14 sacks & 14 scrambles. Stroud has been under significant duress. 2) the turnovers. Stroud was historically good at not turning the ball over last year. This year, not so much. Two of those turnovers were inside the opponents' 8-yard line. Two others occurred inside opponents' 33-yard line (including the INT in the end zone Sunday). The other takeaway worth mentioning: in week 1 (v. IND), they scored 17 2H points - probably not a coincidence their best second half is the only one to feature Mixon & Collins. ====== To be very clear: I am NOT arguing they've been good. I'm also not absolving Slowick or the playcalling as being a significant issue. I didn't *watch* any of the halves so I can't really comment on that. But, overwhelmingly - when you consider QB pressure, penalties, turnovers, missed FGs... execution is absolutely at the top of your list of reasons.
The Texans have had the lead at halftime in every game but 1, the Vikings. 09/08 (Sun.) W Chicago - leading at the half and scored a FG in the 2nd half. - Bears scored a FG 09/22 (Sun.) L @ Minnesota - shutout except for a TD in the 2nd half 09/29 (Sun.) W Jacksonville - leading at the half and scored a TD in the 2nd half. - Jags also scored a TD 10/06 (Sun.) W Buffalo - leading at the half and scored 2 FG in the 2nd half. - Bills scored 2 TDs and a FG 10/13 (Sun.) W @ New England - leading at the half and scored 3 TDs and 2 FGs. - Pats 2 TDs 10/20 (Sun.) L @ NY Jets - leading at the half and scored 2 FGs in the 2nd half. - Jets scored 3 TDs 11/10 (Sun.) L Detroit - leading at the half and scored 0 in the 2nd half. - Lions scored 2 TDs, a failed 2pt conversion and 2 FGs I bolded to help with separating Texans from opponents
We're not built for that yet. All it does is bring more blitzers or pseudo blitzers to hit Coleridge or clog up every running lane. It's a win/win for the defense right now until they master it. Instead, they should go uptempo 30% of the time when it's not 2 minutes.
