He could've easily retired many years ago before the Spurs starting rebuilding but you gotta respect his love for the game.

    One of the GOATs.

Hopefully health reasons won't be the reason for him retiring. He should be able to go out on his own terms.

A "mild" stroke is probably a career ender for a 75 year-old NBA coach. I hope he walks away from the stress of the team, relaxes, focuses on his recovery and spends time with family and hobbies.

One of, if not the best, coaches of all time. I'm sad to hear this. I hope he fully recovers and is able to leave the game on his own terms, but I'm not optimistic about that given his age. It does seem like the smarter thing for him to go ahead and retire and concentrate on his loved ones for his remaining years. He certainly cemented his legacy many years ago. And honestly, he could have opted to protect his career winning percentage and retire when the Spurs began to rebuild, but he opted to remain because he clearly loves basketball and doesn't really care about that kind of stuff. I respect him even more for that reason. The game is worse without him, but hopefully his legacy lives on with all of his proteges, Ime included, out there winning.

Much love for Pop. GOAT coach. I hope he recovers and is able to come back to the team. Not like this, Pop. Not like this.

My mom had a mild stroke a few years ago, and she is almost fully recovered, but it took a while, and it f**ked with her confidence. I can imagine this pushing Pop to retirement even if he's still capable of the job... But as someone mentioned above, I want to see him go out on his own terms.

Hope he recovers enough to finish the year, he deserves a retirement tour around the league.

and I hope the spurs lose every damn game

His wife died a few years ago. Wonder if he kept coaching well into his seventies to avoid the full grief and loneliness of that.

Get well soon Pop, hope he focuses on what's important and if that's stepping away from the game to be with family then I hope he does.

“His own terms” being a defeat at the hands of the Rockets.
