Yes he gave up 4 straight baskets. What an impact! Sheppard may be great someday. Right now, he shouldn’t even be in the rotation. Some people can only watch offense.
Well, I guess there is at least one young guy you are okay with not developing in the name of winning. I may disagree with the sentiment, but I am glad that you at least recognize the importance of winning in at least one instance such that you aren't completely for development with no regard for winning at all (I am for balance...not throwing away wins, but still get the deserving young guys 30 mpg, and having some for Jabari, Cam, and Reed). I'm sorry for implying that you were on board with going Full Silas as I didn't know you were for playing Holiday over Reed.
I stated he didn't play well defensively and that I think he ends up as a neutral or mediocre rookie defender. I've also been critical of his performance on both ends. But I understand most rookies are not good two way players. Especially non generational one and dones. I'm not convinced an extra 5-15 minutes of someone like Aaron Holiday moves the needle all that much. Even though Holiday is currently the better player, I'm willing to sacrifice some short term "success" for Reed's development. I also don't think theres that much of a dropoff between the two given the role they play in most lineups. I could see a case for bumping Amen's minutes from 25 to 30, but even then, I think getting Reed minutes are better for the team long-term. The overall positive conclusion I'm drawing from Reed's performance so far is that the coaching staff sees something in his game to warrant steady minutes on a serious team. It's not a case of "oh look how awesome he is, he needs 20+ minutes stat", its more like "I'm glad he's doing some good things and not imploding every time he's on the court".
The problem is he does not belong in the rotation. I think that's obvious. I think he should be in the G-League at this point. As soon as he checked in, the Wizards went at him 5 straight times. Hopefully when Cam gets his confidence back, he can get back into the rotation or even Aaron Holiday. But Reed does not belong there at this point.
It's a huge difference in Holiday and Reed at this point. Holiday can hit the 3 at a better clip right now, he plays better defense and he's aggressive. All things Reed are not. However, I think if Reed went to the G-League and sharpened his skills, I think it would be beneficial.
Meh. He was the only backup aside from Tari to have a positive plus minus last night. His on off is much better than Whitmore. You’re exaggerating.
I guess "clip" is something other than %. Because Reed has a higher % currently. Since the 5th game of the season he is also shooting over all 50% and 41.7 from 3. He is doing great in my opinion for a one and done player. He is gradually ramping up like a smart player with a plan would.
Yeah, I have no idea what @hlmbasketball is talking about. Reed has been shooting really well lately. Conversely, the guy hlm wants to replace Reed with, Whitmore, is shooting .053 from 3 this season. Literally .053.
I've got no problems with how they're bringing Reed along. Ime alluded to the fact he was probably making mistakes earlier, and they're probably not giving him a whole lot to do as he learns. But while that happens, he's got others ahead of him that get minutes.
I don't put everything into stats because they can be misleading. Yes, Reed did play better last night. But it wasn't spectacular or anything. It was Meh. Cam is definitely better, when he is confident. ÷
In the broadcast the announcers said the Rockets coaching staff were literally working on how to get Reed more minutes, so it looks like some of y'all are going to continue to be disappointed in him getting early playing time.
Reed will serve us better if he went to the G-League and worked on his craft. Defensively he's a weak link and offensively, besides last night, he's not aggressive enough. If he wasn't the 3 pick, he would be in the Rio Grand Valley
Cam was always a bit of a chucker, confidence has NEVER been the problem, competence has always been the problem. He'd gladly take 20 shots a game right now if you let him
His 3pt shooting has gone up to 39% now. Still an extremely small sample size. He can drop back down to 35% with a couple misses, or rise to 45% with a couple makes. But some of his haters said his shooting wasn't as advertised on a 3-game sample. LOL.
I presume he will at some point this season. Likely to attempt to play how will later on down the line. I can already tell in my opinion that he will be a special player who is a winning player. I actually am more confident in him than any other player on the team. He is going to make a million 3's in his career. He just needs to get stronger to compensate for his height disadvantage and he will be good to go.
I actually don’t think Reed will go to the g-league this season. He’s already getting 15+ minutes as FVV’s primary backup. I think it’s more likely his minutes gradually increase to 20+.
You say you're more confident in him, than any other player on the roster? I'm curious, how did you come to that conclusion?
